  • Critical reflections on the good, the bad and the ugly of organisation leadership

Cheryl Ann Cheryl Ann, Cheryl Ann et al.•ARTICLE•Culture and Organization•2010•Cited by: 2•References: 6

This paper explores the impacts Wal‐Mart's operations have on community culture. However, through the application of the psychodynamics of mirroring and a thorough version of dialectical analysis, we can see that community culture turns on itself to mirror what Wal‐Mart wants that culture to be. As such, community culture has little or no power or even desire to counter Wal‐Mart's negative affects and the result is an unfinished dialectic. The un…

  • Paradigmapping Studies of Culture and Organization

Open Access•Sid Lowe, Fiona Moore et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Cross…•2007•Cited by: 5•References: 15

This article argues that cross cultural management research is in a crisis of its own making. It is a captive of the delusion that nomothetic theory is progressing towards convergence of an ideal view. Within the context of this fallacy are competing perspectives and paradigms that appear incommensurable. The battle appears to be which paradigm will win. It is our contention that the battle is futile and unnecessary. We reveal how `paradigmapping…

  • The `Separation Thesis' of Self and Other

    Open Access•Adrian Carr, Adrian N Carr•ARTICLE•Theory & Psychology•2003

It is often assumed that we are first created as an individual and later form relationships with others. This view has been termed the `separation thesis' and seems to be pervasive in Western thinking. Additionally it is also often commonly assumed that in the intersubjective system of self and other, self must necessarily be privileged over other. Examined through the optic of dialectics, this paper puts forward a different and dissenting view: …

  • Cyberspace as Potential Space

    Open Access•Monica T Whitty, Adrian Carr et al.•ARTICLE•Human Relations•2003•Cited by: 11•References: 17

This article compares traditional offline flirting with cyber-flirting. We begin by providing a definition of offline flirting, which we follow up with our own elaboration of cyber-flirting. The article then draws from psychoanalytic theory, in particular Winnicott's object-relations theory, to propose that cyber-flirting can be a form of play. While this is not an empirical study, we do attempt to present a theoretical framework for the concepti…

  • The Emergence of a Surrealist Movement and its Vital `Estrangement-Effect' in Organization Studies

    Open Access•Adrian Carr, Adrian N Carr et al.•ARTICLE•Human Relations•2000•Cited by: 2•References: 19

Beginning as a subversive and anti-establishment movement in France in the 1920s, surrealism was primarily a movement whose `voice' came through the written word. Later the movement extended into the visual arts, with which it is more generally associated. Surrealism was always intended as a way of thinking, a way of feeling and, indeed, a philosophy of life. This way of thinking now appears to have permeated the discourse of organization theory …

Public enterprises are coming under increasing pressure to provide solutions to broader social and economic issues such as unemployment and income distribution. The public school system in Australia has been under just such pressure, the consequences of which include a restructuring of the system of schooling with a vocational and efficiency emphasis. A new efficiency movement has arrived in Australia. Privatization looms in the background as the…
