Handbook of Terrorism and Counter Terrorism Post 9/11
Almost two decades after the events of 9/11, this Handbook offers a comprehensive insight into the evolution and development of terrorism and insurgency since then. The Strategic Risks of Devaluing Nuclear Weapons
This article surveys the emerging field of meaning represented by ‘nuclear devaluation’, and the arguments likely to be publicly or privately articulated against it by the elites of nuclear capable states, reaching judgements through the prism of their own strategic cultures in relation to their own national and regime interests. These judgements will be informed by different, often unstated, assumptions about the value of nuclear weapons, partic…

It finds recent American administrations deliberately unwilling to maintain international confidence in the necessary collective narrative of eventual universal nuclear disarmament, so causing a crisis of confidence in the Non Proliferation Treaty regime. This commentary examines how far realistically different recent US policies and declarations cou…
Chemical and biological weapons
This article examines the general prospects for arms control as a means to manage the evolving problems of chemical and biological weapons proliferation and the prospect of warfare using these weapons. The main proposition is that there is a mixed picture for arms control in this field
The Kentucky elderly need assessment
The purpose was to examine the concurrent criterion-based validity of different measures used in a statewide in-home need assessment survey of a representative sample of 570 older persons. Need was measured and defined in four different ways in six problem areas. The criterion measure was a life satisfaction scale. The set of four need measures yielded a significant multiple R, indicating that the set would generally be related to life satisfacti…
A procedure for systematic citizen input to community decision‐making
Measuring citizen evaluations of services amidst community change
Citizen surveys are increasingly being used by communities to evaluate services; however, previous work suggests that such evaluations of specific services may be influenced by generalization from other attitudes. Surveys repeated annually for 4 years allowed an examination of such possible "contagion" effects since they were done before, during, and after a highly visible, extensive change--court-ordered busing--which engendered intense negative…
