The Leisure Component of the Parental Role
This study applies an alternative analytical approach to married couples' leisure during the parental stage of their life cycle. Leisure is viewed as one of the means through which the parental role is enacted. Leisure participation and perception data were collected from 562 couples, using three survey instruments administered to both spouses separately in 1980–1981, and from a ten percent subsample interviewed in 1985–1986. The paper examines the participation patterns, preferences and perception of activities as they specifically pertain to the mass media. The findings indicate relationships between leisure…

The major turning point in married couples's leisure is associated with parenthood. The crucial conclusion of this paper is t…
The Social Dialectic of Life Career and Leisure
According to Rhona and Robert Rapoport, “people have preoccupations which change at different stages of their lives. These preoccupations may be translated into interests and the interests may be channelled into activities. Characteristic preoccupations seem to persist through generations” (Leisure and the Family Life Cycle, 1978, p. 337). The main purpose of this paper is to apply this proposition to the set of empirical data and analyze its val…

This change resulted from several environmental and socio-economic factors, especially an availability of good sports and recreation facilities, a relative lack of high culture, downward social mobility of these immigrants, and a lack…
