  • Policy resistance to paradigm shifts

    Open Access•Alix J Jansen, Alix Jansen et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Public Administration•2022•Cited by: 2•References: 31

We assess Canada's labour market policy mix in order to determine whether the inclusive growth and innovation agenda indicates that technological change has triggered a policy paradigm shift. Our analysis of four policy areas concerning labour market access indicates no paradigm shift has occurred. Instead, the agenda is an example of policy resistance: first‐ and second‐order policy changes (changes to policy settings) maintain the status quo of…

Kristen Pue, Daniel Westlake et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Public Policy•2021•Cited by: 5•References: 8

Although exactly which skills and jobs will become obsolete is not known, technological change may cause unemployment to spike and increase the need for retraining. To move toward understanding what policy interventions will be needed in response, in this article we assess the current stat…

Kathryn Smits, Katherine Smits et al.•ARTICLE•National Identities•2012•Cited by: 5•References: 14

World's fairs provide a stage on which nations display and promote their identities in both a global and commercial context. From the 1851 Great Exhibition, nations identified themselves via mass arrays of products and materials. As the technology of display came to dominate in the twentieth century, nations used film to project their identities through amusing experiences for visitors. In contemporary Expos, national displays blend corporate bra…
