  • The Local Protective Goddess of Khotan

    Open Access•Huiming Zhang•ARTICLE•Religions•2026

Among the pictorial remains unearthed from Buddhist monastery sites in the Khotan region, a distinct category of female deities holds considerable significance. Belonging to the local protective pantheon of Khotan, they fulfilled the dual functions of safeguarding the Buddhist Dharma and protecting the local population. The Earth Goddess (Pṛthivī-Dṛḍhā) discussed in this paper is a particularly representative example of such goddesses. This study…

  • How Do Natural Disasters Affect Regional Innovation

Open Access•Ziyang Zhan, Dongxing Jia et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Regional Science•2026

This study examines the effect of natural disasters on regional innovation in the United States between 1994 and 2018. Using a comprehensive dataset of patents and natural disasters at the county level, we employ a panel‐fixed‐effects model to estimate the causal impact of disasters on patent applications. Our findings reveal that natural disasters significantly hinder innovation, with patent applications decreasing by 2%–2.4% in 2–4 years after …

  • Spatiotemporal Changes of Ecosystem Service Value Determined by National Land Space Pattern Change

Open Access•Haozhe Zhang, Qingyuan Yang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Exploring the spatiotemporal change characteristics of ecosystem service value (ESV) under the influence of national land space pattern (NLSP) changes is of great significance for promoting the rational use of land resources and the optimization of ecosystems. In this study, Fengdu County in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area was selected as a case study. We analyzed the changes in NLSP using land use data from 1990, 2000, 2010 and 2018. Then, we us…

  • The Effect of Manufacturing Agglomeration on Haze Pollution in China

Open Access•Liu Jun, Yuhui Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

Based on panel data on 285 Chinese cities from 2003 to 2012, we use a dynamic spatial panel model to empirically analyze the effect of manufacturing agglomeration on haze pollution. The results show that when economic development levels, population, technological levels, industrial structure, transportation, foreign direct investment, and greening levels are stable, manufacturing agglomeration significantly aggravates haze pollution. However, reg…
