Cannabidiol (CBD) Products
INTRODUCTION: Cannabidiol (CBD) shows promise for a variety of indications, including anxiety. Prior survey work indicates anxiety ranks as a top reason for which people use cannabidiol (CBD), but no work has evaluated individuals using CBD specifically for anxiety. METHOD: = 12.99) who reported using CBD products for anxiety-related concerns within the past 30 days. RESULTS: Family and friends, followed by popular and scientific literature, were…
Greater adolescent tiredness is related to more emotional arousal during a hyperventilation task
INTRODUCTION: Approximately 36% of adolescents report sleep problems (Crowley et al., 2018). Understanding the relation between sleep and emotional experience is crucial in understanding the high incidence of mental health concerns during adolescence. The current study sought to expand understanding in the area by testing the hypothesis that baseline tiredness ratings would predict greater emotional arousal and negative valence across the course …
A Laboratory-Based Investigation of Links between Maternal Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms and Adolescent Offspring Anxiety
SYNOPSISObjective. Maternal symptoms of posttraumatic stress are linked to problematic offspring outcomes, including internalizing problems, general behavioral problems, and altered psychobiological functioning. Maternal posttraumatic stress symptoms among trauma-exposed mothers as they relate to offspring functioning has not been evaluated, and laboratory-based affect elicitation procedures have not been used in this context. Design. Self-report…
The interaction between sleep disturbances and anxiety sensitivity in relation to adolescent anger responses to parent adolescent conflict ☆
INTRODUCTION: Sleep disturbances are common among adolescents and are associated with elevated anxiety, and difficulties managing affect. Familial conflict is associated with both anxiety sensitivity and adolescent sleep disturbances. No work to date has examined how adolescent sleep disturbances may interact with anxiety sensitivity in relation to adolescent affective responding to parent-adolescent conflict. The current study was designed to ad…
An evaluation of the validity of a script-driven imagery procedure among traumatic event–exposed adolescents
Research is needed to understand why certain variables, such as physiological reactivity to the script, did not relate to PTSS. However, results suggest the traumatic event-focused script driven imagery procedure is a useful method for activating a trauma-related emotion network and measuring psychological reactivity to reminders of traumatic event cues among adolescents. Child Anxiety and Parental Anxiety Sensitivity are Related to Parent Sick Role Reinforcement
SYNOPSISObjective. Parents can facilitate offspring anxiety in response to bodily arousal via “sick role reinforcement,” a process that may be important during adolescence. Although a sizeable body of work has examined the role of parent behavior in this process, no study to date has examined child-driven effects on parental sick role reinforcement. Furthermore, little work has examined whether parental factors are related to sick role reinforcem…
A preliminary study of subclinical panic symptom elevations among adolescent offspring of parents with PTSD who smoke
Objectives: Research has linked parental post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and parental smoking to a wide array of psychological and physical health concerns among offspring. Furthermore, the combination of parental anxiety psychopathology generally, along with smoking, has been linked to elevated adolescent panic symptomatology. However, no research has examined the unique and interactive associations between parental PTSD and smoking in ter…
Elevated social anxiety among early maturing girls
Adolescence is a key period in terms of the development of anxiety psychopathology. An emerging literature suggests that early pubertal maturation is associated with enhanced vulnerability for anxiety symptomatology, although few studies have examined this association with regard to social anxiety. Accordingly, the current study was designed to further elucidate the relation between pubertal timing and social anxiety, with a focus on clarifying t…
