Open Access•Richard Thorburn Howard Cuttler, Faisal Al Naimi et al.•ARTICLE•Arabian archaeology and epigraphy•2026

This paper presents the results of archaeological investigations (2009–2014) at Wādī aḍ‐Ḍubayʿān (QNHER 141), a stratified littoral Neolithic site on the northwestern coast of Qatar. The site documents occupation from the late sixth to the late fourth millennium BCE , combining evidence from geophysics, excavation and radiocarbon dating. Early activity consists of ephemeral structures, hearths and pits located on elevated ground, associated with …

  • Oil prices in the real economy

Open Access•Haicheng Shu, Peter Spencer•ARTICLE•Journal of Applied Econometrics•2023

This paper presents a macro‐finance model of the US economy and the spot and futures markets for oil. The performance of the model is greatly enhanced by using the Kalman filter to model latent variables representing the inflation asymptote, the real price of oil and the slope of the futures curve. We find that these are dominated by innovations in observed futures prices, reflecting the importance of market expectations. Using the Kalman filter …

In 2000 and 2003, small‐scale excavations took place at MR11, with the first full excavation taking place in 2004. Excavations continued at MR11 between 2014 up to 20…

  • Irrational Exuberance

    Open Access•Peter Spencer•ARTICLE•The Economic Journal•2002

Robert Shiller's book provides a wide‐ranging view of the economics of the equity market. It is aimed at a lay audience, but will be of interest to students of stock market history, finance economists and practitioners. His central objective, like that of many of his scholarly papers, is to show that the stock market is inefficient. He argues that it is influenced by uninformed investors who believe that they can free‐ride on professional researc…

  • Iron Reinforcement of the Tower and Spire of Salisbury Cathedral

John Reeves, Gavin Simpson et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological Journal•1992

Salisbury Cathedral was first built with a low, insubstantial stone lantern, perhaps with a timber superstructure, over the central crossing. In the fourteenth century the lantern became the foundation for the tower. Both it, and the steeple on top, were reinforced with networks of iron bars at their interface. There is also a complex iron framework in the lantern to prevent the collapse of its walls. The origin, purpose, and technology of iron r…
