Alignment between top-down disaster indices and local views on disaster preparedness
This study examines whether top-down indices of disaster resilience and vulnerability align with individuals’ perceptions of preparedness and coping capacity. Using data from a nationally representative survey of Australians in 2021, we match individuals’ self-reported perceptions to two indices: the Vulnerability Index and the Australian Natural Disaster Resilience Index. While this transition has facilitated educational continuity globally, it has also led to unintended consequences, especially in regions with variable digital readiness. Procedural Barriers to Political Candidacy
A procedural rule in Indian elections requires candidates to pay a nominal deposit, which is forfeited on obtaining fewer than one-sixth of the votes. Forfeiture diminishes female recontesting by 13.3 percentage points (pp) in the following election (relative effect size of 68%). We find no such effects for men. These effects are persistent and discourage female candidates in the long term as well. States with more regressive gender norms exhibit…
The heterogeneous role of party affiliation in the runner‐up effect

Only runner‐ups without a major party backing in election have significant prospects over the third‐place candidates in election , in terms of either recontesting or winning. Our findi…
