A Belief-Behavior Gap? Exploring Religiosity and Sexual Activity Among High School Seniors
Religiosity, sexual activity, and contraception were examined via questionnaires and interviews in a diverse sample of 118 high school seniors. The majority reported religion to be important; importance and frequency ratings declined from private (e.g., prayer) to public (e.g., group activities) components of religion. Educational Levels of Adolescent Childbearers at First and Second Births
This study employed the 1985 birth records of a midwestern state to assess the educational levels of white, black, and Hispanic adolescents, 15-19 years of age, having first and second births. There were age and ethnic differences in the relationship of first and second births to educational levels of adolescents. Correlates of Sexual Activity in Early Adolescence
Demographic, social, and social-cognitive variables associated with beginning sexual activity were assessed in 114 Black and White males and females in early adolescence (X age = 13.95 years), recruited from public schools and community agencies. Sex Education, Contraceptive and Reproductive Knowledge, and Contraceptive Use among Black Adolescent Females
This study examined sources of sex education for Black adolescent females and assessed relationships among sex education, knowledge about contraception and reproduction, and contraceptive use. The majority of adolescents reported having discussions with parents and having formal instruction regarding pregnancy, the menstrual cycle, and contraception.
