Sarcopenia
Background: in 2010, the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP) published a sarcopenia definition that aimed to foster advances in identifying and caring for people with sarcopenia. In early 2018, the Working Group met again (EWGSOP2) to update the original definition in order to reflect scientific and clinical evidence that has built over the last decade. This paper presents our updated findings. Objectives: to increase co…
Sarcopenia
doi: 10.1093/ageing/afy169 In the original version of the above paper there was an error in Table 3, which shows the recommended cut-off points for ASM/height2 in women. The cut-off point was given as <6.0 kg/m2, but the correct value is <5.5 kg/m2. This has now been corrected online. The authors wish to apologise for this error.
A spatial and temporal analysis of different periglacial materials by using geoelectrical, seismic and borehole temperature data at Murtèl–Corvatsch, Upper Engadin, Swiss Alps
Different geophysical investigations, such as electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and refraction seismic tomography (RST), allow for an improved characterization of subsurface conditions in mountain permafrost areas. The knowledge of the permafrost internal composition constitutes a major prerequisite for climate-related modelling studies, for detailed hazard or local infrastructure assessments. To detect the small-scale variations of permafr…
Sarcopenia
The European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP) developed a practical clinical definition and consensus diagnostic criteria for age-related sarcopenia. EWGSOP included representatives from four participant organisations, i.e. the European Geriatric Medicine Society, the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism, the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics—European Region and the International Associa…
Who's to Blame? (Mis) perceptions of the Intergovernmental Response to Disasters
This analysis shows that the intergovernmental response to Hurricane Katrina collapsed because those involved in the process did not have a clear understanding of their own roles and responsibilities or how the entire governmental response system should operate. New data are presented which demonstrate that citizens' attitudes about intergovernmental responsibilities coincide quite closely with how the disaster response system is designed to func…
