Open Access•Ireneusz Sadowski, Nataliia Pohorila•ARTICLE•East European Politics and…•2017

Since gaining its independence in 1990, Ukraine has experienced two revolutions and a war in the east of the country. Meanwhile, it has sampled all three major electoral systems (majoritarian, proportional, and mixed) and has created dozens of major parties and political blocs. Such a volatile context has consequences for such crucial political issues as accountability and circulation of the political class. At the same time, it allows researcher…

  • Do Revolutions Bring Revolutionary Changes? Replacement in the Ranks of Ukraine’s Parliament, 1990–2014

Ireneusz Sadowski, Nataliia Pohorila•ARTICLE•International Journal of Sociology•2017•Cited by: 3•References: 10

This article concerns stability and change in the ranks of the Ukrainian political elite from 1990 to 2014. Nataliia Pohorila, NATALIA POHORILA et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Sociology•2005•References: 2

High expectations of the political elite run parallel with disappointment and distrust of politicians. Reasons for low trust of political leaders involve the combination of two different criteria for estimating politicians: instrumental or axiological. This article presents an attempt to analyze factors of electoral choice and to classify them as instrumental or axiological. The analysis is based on data from several surveys conducted in Ukraine

  • Individual Income Gains and Losses in Ukraine, 1993—1996

Nataliia Pohorila, Nataliya Pohorila et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Sociology•1999•References: 8

Using the 1993-96 panel data from the national Ukrainian survey, we test two complementary hypotheses pertaining to income determinants and income change. First, we stipulate that, despite a slow pace of economic reforms during the initial phase of the post-communist transition, the impact of education on income increases over time. Second, we hypothesize that support for systemic change at the beginning of the process is an important determinant…
