The Association Between Personal, Affective, and Cognitive Factors and Suicide Risk Among Muslims in Turkey
This study was conducted to examine the association of various personal, affective, and cognitive factors with suicide risk. The study group consisted of a total of 423 individuals, including 341 (74%) females and 82 (26%) males, who lived in Turkey and declared that they were Muslims. The data of the study, in which a cross-sectional design was employed, were collected between October and December 2022. The mean age of the participants was 26.84…
The economic resilience of the Spanish provinces
The purpose of this paper is to analyse the economic resilience of Spanish provinces and help to explain why some of them are much more resilient than others. To do so, the paper focuses on the recent, 2007–2009 economic crisis and computes a composite indicator ( Resilience ) made up of two sub-indicators: one for the recession period ( Drop ) and the other for the recovery period ( Rebound ). Then, it suggests some factors affecting resilience …

Spatial Linkages in FDI Location
This paper examines the main factors behind the regional location of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Spain, at both the aggregate and sectoral levels, over the 1996‐2013 period. To do so, a panel spatial Durbin model, which allows us to unveil patterns of substitution or complementarity in FDI across regions, is estimated. Our findings reveal that inward FDI in one region is complementary to that in neighbouring regions, a conclusion that is c…
Internal migration dynamics in Spain
This paper analyses the impact of the 2008 economic crisis on the spatial distribution of interprovincial migration in Spain, with a particular focus on changes in provinces' relative attractiveness. First, the paper examines the distribution of the net migration rate across provinces over the period 2002–2013. Next, by comparing the precrisis (2002–2007) and crisis (2008–2013) periods, the paper investigates which provinces became more attractiv…
A spatial approach to the impact of immigration on wages
On the basis of a spatial wage-curve equation, this paper analyses the effect of immigration on average wages across Spanish provinces (NUTS-3) over the period 2004–15. To do so, a spatial panel Durbin model is estimated. The results reveal that there exists a small negative effect, which is mainly determined by the presence of spillovers. Moreover, they reveal that the average wage of a particular province depends positively on its productivity …
Internal Migration in Spain
This article investigates the determinants of internal mobility of both foreigners and natives across Spanish provinces over the decade 2004‐14. Building on an extended gravity model, our econometric strategy controls for multilateral resistance to migration by including different fixed effects structures. Additionally, the article allows for some nonlinearities in the key economic determinants of migration, wages and unemployment. The main findi…

Explaining Polarisation in the Eu 27's International Migration Distribution
This paper is aimed at analysing the European Union's international migration distribution (EUIMD) for the period 1990–2010. Besides some relevant aspects of the distribution, such as inequality and dynamics, it mainly focuses on trends in polarisation and in exploring some key factors that might be behind these trends. The results of the study reveal that polarisation in EUIMD has followed a decreasing path and that factors like geographic locat…
Provincial Wages in Spain
This paper analyses the performance of provincial Spanish wages during the period 1985—2003. Using both traditional and recent analytical approaches, related to spatial econometrics, non-parametric and semi-parametric techniques, the paper reveals that a process of wage convergence has taken place. However, this does not preclude that mobility within the provincial wage distribution is small. The paper also shows that the degree of provincial wag…
Spatial Effects on Provincial Convergence and Income Distribution in Spain
This paper examines the role of space (geographical location) in provincial income convergence and income distribution in Spain. To do that, and after showing the presence of spatial dependence in our income data, the paper compares two sample series: actual versus filtered (spaceless) data. The comparison of these two series comes out to two important differences: first, the speed of convergence is higher and, second, the income distribution is …
A New Look to Convergence in Spain
This article examines the process of provincial convergence which has taken place in Spain between 1985 and 2002. Focusing on labour productivity, it estimates the so-called ‘classical’ models of convergence, concluding that, contrary to what has been suggested by previous work, convergence has not stagnated. After stressing the limitations of this type of approach, the article attempts to overcome them, by, on the one hand, estimating the densit…
Regional Convergence, Polarisation and Mobility in the European Union, 1980-1996
This paper focuses on the changes in regional inequality, polarisation and mobility in per capita income within the European Union between 1980 and 1996. Using different techniques, the main findings that arise from the study are (i) a small decrease in regional inequality; (ii) no apparent change in the polarisation process; and (iii) a relatively high degree of mobility. The paper also shows that the speed at which convergence and mobility were…
