  • A Culturally Appropriate Self-Management Program for Hispanic Adults With Type 2 Diabetes and Low Health Literacy Skills

Open Access•Debra R Brunk, Ann Gill Taylor et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Transcultural Nursing•2017

Purpose: This study assessed the feasibility of adapting a patient-centered educational intervention for type 2 diabetes (T2D) self-management for a Hispanic population with low health literacy skills. Design: A descriptive qualitative study design and phenomenological analyses were used. Nine Hispanic adults with T2D recruited from a rural community health center participated in an educational program that instructed on low glycemic food choices…

  • Considerations of a Dual‐Systems Model of Cognitive Development and Risky Driving

    Open Access•Ann E Lambert, Bruce G Simons‐morton et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Research on Adolescence•2014•Cited by: 3•References: 5

The dual-systems model of adolescent risk-taking postulates that risk-taking during adolescence partially results from an imbalance in the development of the executive and the socio-emotional cognitive systems. While supported by behavioral and neuroanatomical data, translational research linking the model with real-world driving or laboratory driving simulation is sparse. This paper discusses the model as it relates to adolescent driving and rev…

  • Internet interventions

    Lee M Ritterband, Linda Gonder‐Frederick et al.•ARTICLE•Professional Psychology Research…•2003

The provision of health care over the Internet is a rapidly evolving and potentially beneficial means of delivering treatment otherwise unsought or unobtainable. Internet interventions are typically behavioral treatments operationalized and transformed for Web delivery with the goal of symptom improvement. The literature on the feasibility and utility of Internet interventions is limited, and there are even fewer outcome study findings. This arti…

  • Intensive versus standard blood glucose awareness training (BGAT) with insulin-dependent diabetes

    Daniel J Cox, L Gonder-Frederick et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1991

Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) patients make critical daily self-care decisions on the basis of what they estimate their blood glucose (BG) levels to be. This study: a) replicated efficacy of Standard Blood Glucose Awareness Training (BGAT), b) evaluated the relative efficacy of an Intensive Blood Glucose Awareness Training (BGAT) to enhance patient accuracy of BG estimation, and c) evaluated the mechanisms and ancillary effects of BG…

  • Incidence and nature of male genital exposure behavior as reported by college women

    Daniel J Cox•ARTICLE•The Journal of Sex Research•1988•Cited by: 4

(1988). Incidence and nature of male genital exposure behavior as reported by college women. The Journal of Sex Research: Vol. 24, No. 1, pp. 227-234

  • Reliability of Symptom-Blood Glucose Relationships Among Insulin-Dependent Adult Diabetics

    Daniel J Cox, Linda Gonder‐Frederick et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1983

Symptoms and blood glucose levels were recorded by 23 insulin-dependent diabetics during three separate intervals. Each interval spanned 7-10 days, involving 40 symptom-blood glucose recordings. Each symptom's ratings were correlated with their respective blood glucose recording to yield a separate symptom-blood glucose correlation for each interval. These separate symptom-blood glucose relationships were themselves correlated across the three in…

  • Physical Symptoms Related to Blood Glucose in Insulin-Dependent Diabetics

    James W Pennebaker, Daniel J Cox et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1981

Thirty hospitalized diabetics completed symptom checklists immediately prior to monitoring their own blood glucose level seven times a day for 6--10 days. For each subject, simple correlations were computed between each of the physical symptoms and blood glucose level. Most subjects evidenced several symptoms that were highly correlated with glucose fluctuations. Further, the symptoms that were related to glucose differed from subject to subject.…
