  • Sustainable Agriculture by Increasing Nitrogen Fertilizer Efficiency Using Low-Resolution Camera Mounted on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

    Open Access•Dongwook Kim, Dong-Wook Kim et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

Nitrogen use efficiency in modern agriculture is very low. It means that a lot of synthetic chemicals are wasted rather than utilized by crops. This can cause more problems where the soil surface is thin and rocky like Jeju Island in the Republic of Korea. This is because overly used nitrogen fertilizer can be washed into the underground water and pollute it. Thus, it would be important to monitor the nitrogen deficiency of crops in the field to …

  • Structural Changes, Housing Price Dynamics and Housing Affordability in Korea

    Kyung-Hwan Kim, Man Cho•ARTICLE•Housing Studies•2010•Cited by: 6•References: 11

The Korean housing sector offers an interesting case study. It has had a highly regulated market faced with a large demand pressure over an extended period of economic development, has solved the problem of absolute housing shortages within a reasonably short time period, and has maintained an explicit policy goal of achieving housing price stability. This paper documents the evolution of housing policy in Korea, identifying the structural change…

  • The Global House Price Boom and its Unwinding

    Kyung-Hwan Kim, Bertrand Renaud•ARTICLE•Housing Studies•2009•Cited by: 8•References: 23

The unprecedented rises in house prices across much of the industrialized world during the period 1997–2006 have been closely linked to the massive global credit expansion of the past decade. They have also coincided with the highest rates of growth of the global economy on record. The downturn of house prices in the US that began in late 2006 has been the trigger for the US sub-prime crisis, itself the catalyst for the broad financial crisis tha…

  • The Political Economy of Korean Government Policies on Real Estate

    Open Access•Chung-Ho Kim, Kyung-Hwan Kim•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•2000•Cited by: 10•References: 9

This paper investigates the driving forces behind the Korean government's real-estate policy decision-making. In particular, it tries to explain why inefficient and inequitable policies have persisted for so long, and why policy reform has been so sluggish. In order to do this, a few key regulations governing housing supply and land use are described and evaluated. These are the price control on new apartments, control on land-use conversion, gre…

  • Housing Finance and Urban Infrastructure Finance

    Open Access•Kyung-Hwan Kim, Kyunghwan Kim•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•1997•Cited by: 8•References: 17

Financing issues received major attention in the discussions of human settlement development policy through the preparatory process for Habitat II and at the Conference itself. This paper presents an overview of the existing knowledge and policy experience in housing finance and urban infrastructure finance taking note of changes in economic environment such as globalisation, financial liberalisation and decentralisation as well as progress made …

  • Land Use Controls and Housing Prices in Korea

    Open Access•Lawrence Hannah, Kyung-Hwan Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•1993•Cited by: 27•References: 2

This paper analyses the effects of government controls over land supply on housing in the rapidly growing cities of Korea. Whilst Korea's urban population more than doubled in the period 1973-88, urban land for residential use grew by only 65 per cent. The result has been extremely rapid rises in city residential land values, although the more dense use of residential land has offset some of this rise on house prices. A substantial part of the ri…
