  • Longford Hall Revisited

Richard Bond•ARTICLE•Bulletin of the John Rylands…•2024

Much has been published about John Rylands, whether during his lifetime, in response to his death, or by historians looking back. While records of his business are plentiful, archival records for the Longford estate he bought in Stretford, Lancashire in 1855, including the hall he subsequently built, were not easily found. In recent years, however, estate records have emerged with new information, suggesting others may have survived. These record…

  • A written, reflective and dialogic strategy for assessment feedback that can enhance student/teacher relationships

Gail Crimmins, Greg Nash et al.•ARTICLE•Assessment & Evaluation in Higher…•2016

In response to the shortcomings of current assessment feedback practice, this paper presents the results of a study designed to examine students’ and teachers’ experience of engaging in a written, reflective and dialogic feedback (WRDF) strategy. It uses a locally developed assessment sheet describing the range of household situations for each of five livelihood capitals (natural, physical, human, financial and social). This facilitates the rapid conversion of a judgement by the enumerator into a centile score. After six years of operation in India a…

  • Great Tomkyns Barn, Upminster, and the Sequence of Assembly of Timber-Framed Aisled Barns

    Richard Bond•ARTICLE•Vernacular Architecture•1993•Cited by: 1

The detailed study of a timber-framed aisled barn at Upminster, London Borough of Havering, has provided evidence of the probable method of assembly. Carpenters' marks and an analysis of the building's scarf joints have indicated a sequence of assembly in which the erection of the frame proceeded in a circuit around the site. The individual elements of the timber frame were systematically added piece by piece, allowing the completion of sections …
