  • Acculturation as a Factor in Traditional Versus Atraditional two-Trial Learning Sets

    A A McDowell, B L Bromley et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1976

The present study hypothesized that acculturation of human Ss affects learning performance of such Ss, but doesn't affect that of infrahuman primates. If this is so, then differences as a function of age should be manifest in human Ss. Ss were 24 college students, aged 19; 24 parochial school students, aged 12; and 24 such students, aged 7. Sex representation was equal in each group. The Ss, using the median test, showed a significant decrease in…

  • Learning Mechanisms in Two-Trial Learning Sets by College Students

    A A McDowell, B L Bromley et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1974•References: 1

Undergraduate college students were tested to an arbitrary learning criterion on two-trial learning set formations. Results showed significantly easier acquisition of two-trial response-perseveration learning set to reinforced cues and two-trial response-shift learning set to nonreinforced cues than for two-trial response-perseveration learning set to nonreinforced cues and two-trial response-shift learning set to reinforced cues. Additional resu…

  • Chronic Effects of a Single Nitrogen Mustard Injection on the Activity Response of Albino Rats

    A A McDowell, Rudolph Chang-Yit et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1973

This study sought to determine the effect of a single intraperitoneal injection of methylchloroethamine on the long-term activity response of immature, male, Holtzmann albino rats. The 10 experimental Ss showed a significant progressive decline in activity up to 110 days after injection. The activity of the control Ss over the same period showed random variation. A subsidiary finding was a significantly faster weight gain for the experimental Ss …

  • Response-Shift Learning-Set Formation by Normal and Previously Irradiated Female Rhesus Monkeys

    A A McDowell, W Lynn Brown•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1965

  • Latent Effects of Chronic Whole-Body Irradiation Upon the Performance of Monkeys on the Spatial Delayed-Response Problem

    A A McDowell, W Lynn Brown•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1959•Cited by: 1

Eight normal, 13 low-dose irradiated, and 13 high-dose irradiated rhesus monkeys were tested for 24 trials a day over a 16-day period on a 10-second delayed-response problem. Previous delayed-response testing had failed to differentiate these groups during the first 100 days following the radiation exposure to which the experimental animals had been subjected two years prior to the initiation of the present experiment. The results of the present …
