  • Enhancing the Medical Homes Model for Children With Asthma

Marisa Elena Domino, Charles Humble et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•2009•References: 17

BACKGROUND: Medical Home is an evolving concept of patient-centered care yet little information is available on its effect on health care expenditures for children. OBJECTIVES: To quantify differences in patterns of care and costs to the North Carolina (NC) Medicaid program for children with asthma across 3 programs: fee-for-service (FFS), primary care case management (PCCM), and Medical Homes. RESEARCH DESIGN: NC Medicaid claims from 1998-2001 f…

  • Passive smoking and 20-year cardiovascular disease mortality among nonsmoking wives, Evans County, Georgia

    Charles G Humble, C Humble et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1990•Cited by: 3•References: 13

The association of passive smoking and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality was assessed in a cohort of 513 rural, married Black and White women who were disease-free and self-described as never-smokers at baseline in 1960. Over a 20-year period, 76 of 147 total deaths were attributed to CVD. Relative risk estimates adjusted for age, cholesterol, blood pressure, and body mass from proportional hazards models were 1.59 for CVD (95% CI = 0.99, 2.…

  • Marriage to a smoker and lung cancer risk

Charles G Humble, Jonathan M Samet et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1987•Cited by: 3•References: 15

As part of a population-based case-control study of lung cancer in New Mexico, we have collected data on spouses' tobacco smoking habits and on-the-job exposure to asbestos. The present analyses include 609 cases and 781 controls with known passive and personal smoking status, of whom 28 were lifelong nonsmokers with lung cancer. While no effect of spouse cigarette smoking was found among current or former smokers, never smokers married to smoker…

  • Cigarette smoking and lung cancer in 'Hispanic' whites and other whites in New Mexico

Charles G Humble, Jonathan M Samet et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1985•Cited by: 11•References: 9

A population-based case-control study of lung cancer was performed in New Mexico to explain the differing patterns of lung cancer occurrence in the state's "Hispanic" Whites and other Whites. From 1980 through 1982, interviews were completed with 521 cases and 769 controls. In the male controls, the prevalence of current and previous cigarette usage was similar in the two ethnic groups, but Hispanics smoked fewer cigarettes daily. In the female c…

  • Influencing Children's Causal Attributions for Personal Achievement Outcomes

Charles Humble, Charles G Humble•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1983•References: 1

Two experiments were conducted to determine if 8- to 10-year-old children could be directionally influenced in their causal attributions for success or failure at a motor achievement task. In Experiment 1, 84 boys and girls were provided cause-effect information about a motor task and then experienced a single trial of manipulated success or failure at the task. Only the Ss who were informed that effort was necessary for task success and then exp…
