  • Priming of Darkness-Rewarded Runway Responses in the American Cockroach ( Periplaneta Americana )

Leonard A Eiserer, Douglas S Ramsay•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1981

After cockroaches were trained to traverse an illuminated runway with darkness as the rewarding event, they were given brief “primes” of darkness in the startbox. Runway performance was enhanced, but these priming effects declined as postprime delay (i.e., the delay before a roach was permitted to leave the startbox) was increased. A second experiment found that the response enhancement was greater after primes of long duration than after primes …

  • Stimulus factors in the isolation-induced aggression of Bobwhite quail and Khaki Campbell ducklings

    Open Access•Leonard A Eiserer, Maureen R Emerling et al.•ARTICLE•Aggressive Behavior•1976•References: 5

Two studies examined the relative abilities of conspecific-derived visual and tactile stimulation to modulate the occurrence of isolation-induced aggression in Bobwhite quail and Khaki Campbell ducklings. In Experiment 1, subjects were permitted visual stimulation from conspecifics but were deprived of conspecific tactile stimulation. In both species, these subjects subsequently showed significantly less aggression towards conspecifics than birds…

  • Overnight Decrement in Maze Performance of Mice Running for Food Reward

    Open Access•Leonard A Eiserer, Sandra J Scardina•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1975

Mice were run in a T-maze for food reward, to investigate possible effects of deprivation level on “overnight decrement,” i.e., worse performance on the first trial of a given day than on the last trial of either the previous or the same day. Following an initial training period, each mouse received a series of massed trials on 22 consecutive days. On half of these days, the mice were deprived of food in their home cages; on the other half, they …
