  • Perceived Freedom-Responsibility Covariation Among Cypriot Adolescents

Georgia Frangou, Keith Wilkerson et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•2008•References: 3

Participants were 67 Cypriot adolescents who responded to propositions regarding positive, negative, and noncontingent relations between freedom and responsibility. The authors framed items so that half dealt with freedom given responsibility, and the other half dealt with responsibility given freedom. Results indicated participants were more likely to endorse positive-contingency items than they were negative and noncontingency items when items …

  • Mutual Gaze Duration as a Function of Length of Conversation in Male—Female Dyads

    Open Access•Dena M Cordell, Joseph R McGahan•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2004

To assess the effects of familiarity on the duration of mutual gaze, and other measures of visual interaction, e.g., duration of unilateral gaze and discrepancy in duration between partners, 14 male-female dyads discussed unconditional positive regard for 8 min., after individually studying the topic for 10 min. Mutual gaze duration was significantly longer during the last 2 min. of the discussion than during the first 2 min. This suggests that, …

  • Judgments About Length, Weight, and Width Covariation as a Function of Intelligence and Depth of Processing in Elementary School Children

Geri Baker, Keith Wilkerson et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2002

  • Association of Need for Cognition With Judgments of Height, Weight, and Body Fat Covariation

    Phillip L Pryor, Joseph R McGahan et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2000

  • Intuitive Covariation Assessment of the Illusory Correlation

Mark C Yates, Joseph R McGahan et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•2000•Cited by: 1•References: 2

Most of the research concerned with the illusory correlation is modeled after the seminal work of D. L. Hamilton and R. K. Gifford (1976). However, S. A. Haslam and C. McGarty (1994) have voiced concerns over the dependent measures used within this paradigm. Therefore, in this study, the authors tested a new dependent variable that has high face validity. This measure was modeled after the work of J. R. McGahan and R. Wight (1989) and consisted o…

  • An Evaluation of the Conditional Probability Strategy and Rule-Analysis Methodology in Judgments of Covariation

    Francis D Richard, Joseph R McGahan•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1998

The current study investigated whether college students specifically have the prerequisite knowledge to use reciprocal information in their reasoning about covariation. Primacy effects on sequential processing tasks provided an opportunity to compare the use of single-cell information versus the use of reciprocal information in judgments about covariation. To investigate these issues, 72 students sequentially processed 25 slides containing dichot…
