Attributions of Interpersonal Values and Teaching Effectiveness
In the present study, 178 high school students first indicated how effective they felt their teachers were, and then completed the Survey of Interpersonal Values as they felt that their teachers would if the latter were responding frankly. The students followed the same procedure with a second teacher of their choice. As had been hypothesized, teachers who were considered to be the more effective tended to have attributed to them higher Benevolen…
Attributions of Interpersonal Values and Counseling Effectiveness
In the present study, 83 high school students first indicated how effective they felt their counselors were and then completed the Survey of Interpersonal Values as they felt their counselors would if the latter were responding frankly. The students followed the same procedure for some “other adult” of their choice, with whom they would find it easy or difficult to discuss a personal problem. As had been hypothesized, those who were considered to…
Perceptibility of Student-Clients' Interpersonal Values by High School Counselors
For each of 74 high school counselors, 6 student clients completed the Survey of Interpersonal Values. The counselors then completed the survey as they believed that each of their six clients had. Perceptual accuracy scores, based on the D statistic, obtained for each counselor were then correlated with their students' value scores. Counselors perceived more accurately value profiles of students who scored low on Conformity and Benevolence and hi…

PEER ratings or buddy ratings are widely used for measuring certain characteristics of group members. This type of rating has been found to yield significant predictions of various per-formance criteria (see Hollander, 1957 and Smith, 1967) and is relatively independent of group composition (Gordon and Med-land, 1965). The peer rating approach involves all members of a group evaluating one another on some characteristic. Each person’s score on th…

Values Associated with Intentions of Cuban Refugees to Remain in the U.S. Army
Cuban officers and enlisted men, serving for brief periods in the U. S. Army, were administered the Survey of Interpersonal Values during, respectively, their 10th and 5th weeks in the service. Several weeks later, toward the end of their periods of obligated service, they were asked to specify whether they wished to remain in the Army. For both groups, Conformity and Benevolence were positively associated and Independence was negatively associat…
Leadership Aspiration and Leadership Ability
The study explored the question whether a significant relationship exists between the individual's aspiring to be in a leadership position and his leadership ability as estimated by peer ratings. Leadership aspiration was measured once by the Survey of Interpersonal Values (SIV); leadership ability was measured twice, once in each of two different group settings. Ss were men in two companies ( N = 246 and N = 229) of Army basic trainees. For each…
