  • Mice Selectively Bred for Open-Field Thigmotaxis

    Pia K Leppänen, S Béatrice M Ewalds‐Kvist et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•2005•Cited by: 1

In 2 experiments, the authors examined 69 mice selectively bred for high or low levels of open-field (OF) thigmotactic behavior (high open-field thigmotaxis [HOFT] and low open-field thigmotaxis [LOFT], respectively). They found that the strains differed in defecation during the 60-min exposure to the OF. Furthermore, the strains differed with regard to their life spans: The more thigmotactic HOFT mice lived longer than the LOFT mice. The strains…

  • Life spans in mice from strains selected for high or low aggression

    Open Access•S Béatrice M Ewalds‐Kvist, S Béatrice M Ewalds-Kvist et al.•ARTICLE•Aggressive Behavior•1996•References: 22

The present study assessed the life spans in two lines of mice selectively bred for high (Turku Aggressive, TA) and low (Turku Nonaggressive, TNA) levels of aggression. The maintained parental Swiss albino strain (N), normally distributed with regard to aggression, served as a control line. It was found that the TNA males had a significantly shorter life span than the other lines of mice of both sexes. The relative early death of the TNA males wa…
