  • Biosensors For Monitoring Insecticides And Herbicides - A Survey

Neelam Verma, Satvinder Singh Dhillon•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2003

Biosensors for the detection of insecticides and herbicides have been reviewed. Direct, fast and easy determination of various insecticides - organophosphorus and carbamates, and herbicides has been achieved by integrating various biocomponents with different transducers. For the construction of biosensors, bioassay principles, effect of solvents and immobilization techniques used, and the compatibility of bioassay principle with the transducer h…

  • Stimulation of acetylcholinesterase activity with nyctanthes arbor‐tristis leaves extract in the malathion‐treated immunosuppressed mice

Neelam Verma, Jasdeep Kaur et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2001

The central nervous system's immune interaction appears to play a role in the psychosocial influence on immunologically resisted and mediated disease. Malathion is a known inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase activity. The accumulation of acetylcholine in nerve tissue affects organs with consequent symptoms that mimic the central nervous system action of acetylcholine. Subchronic and sublethal doses of malathion also suppressed the immune response. …

  • Development of a biological kit for scavenging silver ions from electroplating industrial effluents

Neelam Verma, P Kumar et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1998

Efficient bioscavenging of silver ions from the industrial effluent is possible by firstly running the industrial effluent through the column loaded with modified biological material Albizia lebbeck pod shells powder or rice bran and then from the column loaded with the immobilized viable cell biomass of cyanobacterium. Results reveal that the biological material is more efficient at high silver ions concentrations, whereas viable cyanobacterium …

  • Studies on some cyanobacteria for the selection of bioindicators and bioscavengers of chromium metal ions for industrial waste waters

Neelam Verma, Seema Batta et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1995

Nostoc muscorum, Anabaena variabilis, Anabaena cylindrica and Anabaena torulosa were cultured in a Chu 10 medium containing chromium ions in the range 0.1 to 100 ppm. After 15 days the effect of chromium metal ions on the growth, chlorophyll content, dissolved oxygen content and the metal accumulation was studied. This showed that Anabaena torulosa was the most sensitive species hence a bioindicator, and Anabaena variabilis was the most resistant…

  • Scavenging toxic heavy metal ions from industrial wastewaters — a survey

Neelam Verma, Rajbir Rehal et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1993

A review containing 87 references from 1985 to 1990 is presented. The use of biological methods in preference to chemical methods of scavenging toxic heavy metal ions from industrial wastewaters is recommended, as it is more economical and cost effective, and the adsorbents can be reused thus preventing secondary contamination and pollution

  • Sex as a Factor in Mediational Facilitation
