  • Cognition and Academic Achievement

Open Access•Ronald C Eaves, Craig Darch et al.•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1989

This study evaluated the ability of the Cognitive Levels Test to estimate current achievement in mathematics (as measured by the KeyMath Diagnostic Arithmetic Test) and reading (via the Woodcock Reading Mastery Tests) among a group of 43 handicapped and at-risk children. The validity coefficients resulting from the analysis indicated that the Cognitive Levels Test provides valid estimates of mathematics and reading achievement. A repeated measure…

  • Predictive Validity of the MC Carthy Screening Test Based on Wide Range Achievement Test

    Open Access•Hubert R Vance, Norman Hankins et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1986

The correlations between the McCarthy Screening Test and the Wide Range Achievement Test were assssed for 87 Caucasian first grade children from a semirural school district: 44 boys and 43 girls whose mean age was 62 mo. at screening and 83 mo. at achievement testing. Pearson product-moment correlations were moderate (.53 to .34) between McCarthy Numerical Memory and achievement and negligible (.03 to .16) between the McCarthy Leg Coordination an…

  • The Hierarchial Factor Structure of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children as it Relates to Disadvantaged White and black Children

Hubert R Vance, Charles B Huelsman et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1976

A Wherry hierarchial factor analysis was performed on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children subtest scores for 90 disadvantaged white and black boys and girls, ages 10 to 11 years, whose full scale IQs ranged from 80 to 95. A hierarchial arrangement of abilities congruent with Vernon's structure of intellectual theory was obtained. The obtained arrangement consisted of two factors defined as a verbal factor equivalent to v:ed and a perform…
