    Open Access•François Guesnet•ARTICLE•Zutot•2021

A letter by the army contractor Eliezer Dileon to the community board of Minsk relating his audience with Tsar Alexander I of Russia in January 1817 sheds light on the significance of the performative dimension of Jewish intercession. • The politics of precariousness – Josel of Rosheim and Jewish intercession in the Holy Roman Empire in the 16th century

    François Guesnet•ARTICLE•Jewish Culture and History•2017

  • Sensitive travelers

    François Guesnet•ARTICLE•The Journal of Israeli History•2008•References: 4

Beginning with a reference to early modern, religiously motivated pilgrimages to Erets-Yisroel, this article explores the quest of four travelers of the interwar period for clues of personal, cultural, and political belonging by visiting Mandatory Palestine. It reveals to what significant degree the perceptions of the travelers – two East European Jews, a Polish-Catholic journalist, and one Central European Jewish author – were shaped by preexist…
