  • Symptom trajectories of post-Covid sequelae in patients with acute Delta or Omicron infection in Bergen, Norway

Open Access•Arild Iversen, Bjørn Blomberg et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

Introduction A substantial proportion of the over 700 million COVID-19 cases world-wide experience long-term symptoms. The objectives of this study were to compare symptom trajectories and risk factors for post-COVID-19 condition after Delta and Omicron infection. Methods This study consecutively recruited patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection from November 2021 to March 2022. We recorded demographics, comorbidities, vaccination status, sick leave, …

  • Risk assessment and antibody responses to Sars-CoV-2 in healthcare workers

Open Access•Amit Bansal, Mai-Chi Trieu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Background Preventing infection in healthcare workers (HCWs) is crucial for protecting healthcare systems during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here, we investigated the seroepidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 in HCWs in Norway with low-transmission settings. Methods From March 2020, we recruited HCWs at four medical centres. We determined infection by SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR and serological testing and evaluated the association between infection and exposure variables…

  • Post epidemic giardiasis and gastrointestinal symptoms among preschool children in Bergen, Norway. A cross-sectional study

Open Access•Kristin M Mellingen, Anita Midtun et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2010

A low prevalence of asymptomatic Giardia infection (1.7%) was found among exposed children around one year after the epidemic (1.2% overall prevalence in the study). In the present setting, pre-school children were therefore unlikely to be an important reservoir for continued transmission in the general population

  • Prevalence of enteropathogenic viruses and molecular characterization of group A rotavirus among children with diarrhea in Dar es Salaam Tanzania

Open Access•Sabrina J Moyo, Gro Njølstad et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2007

Nearly one third of children with diarrhea admitted to hospitals in Dar es Salaam had one of the four viral agents. The predominance of rotavirus serotype G9 may have implication for rotavirus vaccination in Tanzania

  • A large community outbreak of waterborne giardiasis- delayed detection in a non-endemic urban area

Open Access•Karin Nygård, Barbara Schimmer et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2006

Late detection contributed to the large public health impact of this outbreak. Passive surveillance of laboratory-confirmed cases is not sufficient for timely detection of outbreaks with non-endemic infections

  • Surveillance of antimicrobial resistance at a tertiary hospital in Tanzania

Open Access•Bjørn Blomberg, Davis Mwakagile et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2004

The surveillance system is a low-cost tool to generate valuable information on antimicrobial resistance, which can be used to prepare locally applicable recommendations on antimicrobial use. The system pinpoints relevant nosocomial problems and can be used to efficiently plan further research. The surveillance system also functions as a quality assurance tool, bringing attention to methodological issues in identification and susceptibility testin…
