Comparison of Conduct-Disordered Behavior in Crack-Dealing versus Nondealing Juvenile Offenders
Currently, little research has investigated psychosocial functioning among juvenile crack dealers, and there appear to be few studies comparing dealers to nondealing juvenile offenders. The current study examined whether juvenile crack dealers display more severe conduct-disordered behavior than their nondealing delinquent peers. The records of 130 adolescent males committed to a residential training school were studied. Analyses indicated that c…
Rationale Exposure and Compliance to Relaxation Training
Exposure to a rationale as a method to increase compliance with relaxation was tested on 52 subjects with stress-related problems. Subjects were randomly assigned to a rationale or no-rationale condition and were trained in progressive relaxation. Compliance during the subsequent week was measured by electronic tape-rewind counters, self-report, and objective and subjective ratings of performance 1 wk. later. Use of a rationale did not have a sig…

Control of Eating Behavior in an Obese Patient by Avoidance Conditioning
A behavioral treatment utilizing avoidance conditioning with an obese patient is described. Favorite foods (CS) were paired with a highly noxious odor (UCS) in the conditioning paradigm and a weight loss of 30 lb. over 22 wk. was reported. Problems of control over environment and habituation to the UCS are discussed
Modification of Dominant Behavior in School Children: An Attempted Replication
The two purposes of this study were to determine the differential effectiveness of four combinations of reward and punishment on interpersonal dominant behavior and to see if any modification of responding would still be in evidence after an interval of 1 wk. 100 third and fourth graders, combined in dyads, were randomly assigned to 5 treatment groups: reward-punishment, nonreward-punishment, reward-nonreward, intrinsic reward-nonreward, and cont…
Methedrine as an Adjunct to Conditioning Treatment of Nocturnal Enuresis in Normal and Institutionalized Retarded Subjects
A replication of the finding that entireties who are given Methedrine as an adjunct to conditioning treatment display more rapid conditioning was attempted with both normal and retarded Ss. The drug failed to enhance conditioning in either normal or retarded Ss. Success figures of 70% for normal Ss and 50% for retarded Ss were found

A Factorial Study of Praise and Blame
The effectiveness of praise and blame on the discrimination performance of 720 Ss as a function of race (Negro, white), grade (2, 4, 7, 10). intelligence (high, medium, low), and sex was studied. Analysis of variance indicated that in situations involving perceptual skills, with speed as the criterion measure, reproof had a debilitating effect upon performance, while praise resulted in an increase in performance larger than that associated with p…
A Factor Analysis of Mathematical Giftedness
90 mathematically gifted high school students selected on the basis of aptitude and interest in mathematics were compared with 63 unselected college preparatory high school students in the same general ability range. A principal-component method of factor analysis was used to determine the minimum number of independent dimensions needed to account for the variance in the correlational matrix

Psychological Measurements of Future Scientists
For the past three summers there has been on the campus of Florida State University a summer institute for mathematically talented senior high school students. The institute, sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the University, and directed by Dr. Eugene Nichols, has drawn students from mist of the 50 states. Selection is based upon performance on a competitive mathematics examination, presently The National Merit Examination conducte…
