  • Time-Duration Asymmetries in Consumer Decision-Making

Open Access•Jiabi Wang, Kristin Donnelly et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Consumer Research•2026

Consumers routinely make decisions about short time periods, such as waiting for a table or deciding whether to pay for faster delivery. Such periods are often expressed by either a duration or a clock time (e.g., if it is 6:00 PM now, “Your table will be ready in 30 minutes” vs. “Your table will be ready at 6:30 PM”). Eight experiments (N = 16,604) show that these logically equivalent frames change how long a period feels, with downstream conseq…

  • Efficiency of the healthcare system and the impact of smoking bans

Open Access•Xiaoyu Wu, Shuyang Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Objective Healthcare system efficiency is a global policy priority in the background of aging populations and in pursuit of universal health coverage (UHC). Some healthcare systems in East Asia have been recognized for being highly efficient, which is attributable to healthy lifestyles, including low smoking rates. Specifically, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) has offered a unique opportunity to study the link between smoking…

  • Cost shifting or cost cutting by hospitals as a response to reimbursement reform? The case of diagnosis-related groups (DRG) scheme in China

Open Access•Jiabi Wang, Jinyun Zhu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background: Diagnosis-related group (DRG) systems for healthcare reimbursement were recently introduced among hospitals in China, raising concerns about cost-shifting, where hospitals may increase charges for self-financing patients to offset reimbursement cuts by DRG. In 2018, both Nanchang and Ganzhou Cities in Jiangxi Province installed DRG information systems, but only Nanchang fully implemented the DRG system during the 2019-2020 pilot perio…

  • Goal harmony

Open Access•Jiabi Wang, Ayelet Fishbach•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•2025

At times, goals seem to conflict, pulling people in opposite directions; at other times, they appear to complement or even facilitate one another, creating harmony. We propose and test a theoretical framework for understanding the antecedents and consequences of perceived goal harmony. We find that goal harmony can be enhanced through the cognitive process of mental integration, which includes identifying connections between goals (e.g., consider…

  • Reminders undermine impressions of genuine gratitude

Jiabi Wang, Shereen J Chaudhry et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•2023

While reminders can help by encouraging prosocial behaviors, we propose that they can also hurt. Across 10 studies, most of which focus on reminders to express gratitude, we find that reminders interfere with impressions of genuine prosociality. Whether people are reminded subtly (Studies 1a and 6-8) or blatantly (Studies 2-5) to express gratitude, the reminder is perceived to put social pressure on the potential thanker, making reminded thankers…
