1309 Objectives : Italian guidelines on radiometabolic treatment of hyperthyroidisms strongly suggest to calculate the time-activity curve of radioiodine thyroid uptake, in order to obtain the values of maximum percent uptake (Umax) and the effective half life (T1/2eff) of the tracer. However in these guidelines it is allowed to use a simplified method in which Umax is the percent uptake 24h after iodine administration (U24h) and T1/2eff is 5.5 d…

An 11-year-old girl with Down syndrome (DS) was operated for a stage I right ovary dysgerminoma. She is in good health 33 years later. Some data in the literature suggest that ovarian cancers could be slightly overrepresented in DS. Despite the rarity of ovarian dysgerminoma, our case is the fifth reported in DS. This case is the second one associated with a family history suggesting the possibility of a familial predisposition to cancer. A hypot…
European watchdog left to die
Lying, Liars and Language
Lying is a form of behaviour which receives relatively little attention as a feature of linguistic interaction (other than as a moral aberration). We occasionally find suggestions that the ability to lie reflects significant capacities of linguistic and communicative subjects, but there has been little or no attempt to draw out or clarify this supposed significance. In this paper I hope to give the beginnings of such an explication. I shall begin…
Contrast effects in impression formation
Effect of snap and thoughtful judgments on person impressions
Judgment type (snap and thoughtful) and valence of stimulus person (from likable to unlikable) were varied as within‐subjects factors in four studies to test whether situational and motivational variables (as opposed to the perceptual variable of unit formation) would interfere with integrative activity in forming first impressions. If such variables are influential, both the averaging and meaning shift formulations would expect that snap judgmen…
