Health-Care Professionals Perceived Barriers to Effective Cancer Pain Management in the Home Hospice Setting
Hospice health-care professionals (HCP) evaluate and manage cancer pain in patient homes. This study explores HCP's perceptions of barriers that affect pain management for home hospice cancer patients. A convenience sample of 20 experienced hospice HCP were recruited from a regional hospice agency. Data were collected through two focus groups using semistructured interviews and analyzed using a constant comparative approach to generate themes. An…
Parental Grief Responses and Personals Growth Following the Death of a Child
Conceptualizing parental grief as a psychosocial transition, this cross-sectional study of bereaved mothers (N = 35) examined the relationship of dispositional factors, grief reactions, and personal growth. More optimistic mothers reported less intense grief reactions and less distress indicative of complicated grief. Additionally, mothers who usually coped actively had less intense grief reactions. Mothers who habitually coped using positive ref…

A Study of Prehistoric Roofing Systems in Arizona Cliff Dwellings
Data and observations from cliff dwellings in the Sierra Ancha of central Arizona are used to develop models for testing the load-bearing capabilities of a series of theoretically possible roofing systems. The modulus of rupture, or point of failure of a beam, is used as the critical limit. Using the models, comparisons with actual examples of the roofing systems show that adequate margins of safety were built into the prehistoric roofs
Evaluation of three types of Instructional Strategy for Learner Acquisition of Intervals
The current study examined the question of what type of instructional strategy most effectively facilitates the learning of music intervals for beginning music majors. The three types of instructional strategy were programmed instruction in the form of a linear programmed text, mastery learning using computer-assisted instruction (CAI), and self-practice using a textbook-study approach. This study also explored the variable of information retenti…
