Dimensional Structure of the Symptom Checklist-90-R: A Network Analysis with a Combined Clinical and Community Sample
Notwithstanding its growing popularity and advantages over exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, no studies have as yet employed psychometric network analysis with clinical subjects for attempting to resolve the dilemma about the dimensional structure of one of the most widely employed self-report measures of psychopathology: the Symptom Checklist-90-R [SCL-90-R]. This is the first study to do so. Clique Percolation, a network community d…
Measurement Invariance and Construct Validity of the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) in Community Volunteers in Vietnam
Worldwide, the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) has become the most widely used measure of life satisfaction. Recently, an authorized Vietnamese-language version has been introduced. Using a convenience sample comprising community volunteers from Ho Chi Minh City (N = 1073), confirmatory support was found for the cross-national constancy of the one-dimensional structure underlying the SWLS. Corrected item-total polyserial correlations and Omeg…
Todas as …
Higher Levels of Masculine Gender Role Stress in Masculine than in Feminine Nations: A Thirteen-Nations Study
It was hypothesized that societies that put greater emphasis on men being rigidly committed to culturally accepted models of masculinity (nations with high Hofstede MASculinity scores) would report higher mean national levels of masculine gender role stress (MGRS) than societies that emphasize such to a clearly lesser extent (low national MAS scores). Supporting this expectation, a large country-level correlation of +.64 ( p = .01) was found acro…
Robust dimensions of anxiety sensitivity: Development and initial validation of the Anxiety Sensitivity Index-3.
Accumulating evidence suggests that anxiety sensitivity (fear of arousal-related sensations) plays an important role in many clinical conditions, particularly anxiety disorders. Research has increasingly focused on how the basic dimensions of anxiety sensitivity are related to various forms of psychopathology. Such work has been hampered because the original measure--the Anxiety Sensitivity Index (ASI)--was not designed to be multidimensional. Su…

Gender roles in relation to assertiveness and eysenckian personality dimensions: Replication with a spanish population sample
Exploring the Feasibility of Assessing Perceived Parental Rearing Styles in Spanish Children With Theembu
Most of the available data on the dimensional structure underlying the EMBU - an originally Swedish measure designed to assess one's recollections concerning one's parents' rearing behaviour - has been obtained with adults or adolescents. In the present study, using exploratory factor analysis, an attempt was made to determine the EMBU factorial structure in a Spanish sample of children aged 7-12 years (N=205). Four factors explaining only 24% an…
The satisfaction with life scale (SWLS): Psychometric properties in a non-psychiatric medical outpatients sample
Cross-Cultural Comparisons of Personality: The Netherlands and England
401 men and 475 women completed the Dutch version of the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire. Factor comparisons all exceeded 0.97 so that the factors of Psychoticism, Extraversion, Neuroticism, and Social Desirability are deemed to be identical in the two countries, England and The Netherlands. Sex differences conform with those in most other cross-cultural studies, namely, men score higher than women on Psychoticism and Extraversion, but lower on…
The Validity of the μ Index for Differentiation of State and Trait Scales
For 443 men and women of the general population and mean age of 45.8 yr. state and trait measures were obtained on two occasions, 6 mo. apart. Internal consistencies at each time were similar (.84-.95). Test-retest coefficients were lower for measures of state concepts than for trait concepts. Howarth's mu indices were higher for state concepts than for trait concepts

An Empirical Test of the Utility of the Observations-To-Variables Ratio in Factor and Components Analysis
Many researchers have proposed a minimum ratio of observations to variables or an absolute minimum of observations in order to obtain stable factor config urations. However, hardly any empirical studies em ploying real data are available that attest to the tena bility of these proposals. A systematic analysis of the problem was undertaken, using self-report data from two large phobic samples on the Fear Survey Sched ule-III (N = 1104) and the Fea…
