  • Relationship Characteristics and Feelings About Pregnancy Among Black and Puerto Rican Young Adults

Open Access•Marion Carter, Joan Marie Kraft et al.•ARTICLE•Perspectives on Sexual and…•2013•Cited by: 4•References: 2

Relationship characteristics were associated with feelings about pregnancy for both genders. Future research should utilize a more comprehensive framework for conceptualizing and examining sexual relationships

  • Condom Use with Serious and Casual Heterosexual Partners

    Open Access•Linda Hock‐Long, Linda Hock-Long et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2012

  • Strategies for Managing the Dual Risk of Sexually Transmitted Infections and Unintended Pregnancy Among Puerto Rican and African American Young Adults

    Marion W Carter, Linda Hock‐Long et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2012•References: 26

Although young adults in the United States are at increased risk for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unintended pregnancy, they do not report high rates of dual-method use (condoms plus other contraception) for prevention. We used prospective qualitative data from 69 urban Puerto Rican and African American individuals aged 18 to 25 years to determine how they managed these risks in their heterosexual relationships during a 4- to 8-week…

  • STD and HIV Testing Behaviors Among Black And Puerto Rican Young Adults

Open Access•Marion W Carter, Joan Marie Kraft et al.•ARTICLE•Perspectives on Sexual and…•2011•Cited by: 2•References: 1

Despite their risks, participants did not perceive themselves to be at risk of STDs. However, they did report testing repeatedly. Testing was highly acceptable, particularly within serious relationships. Questions about the timing of testing initiation and repeat testing merit attention for the benefits of widespread testing to be fully realized

  • Love and Hooking Up in the New Millennium

Anna R Bergdall, Joan Marie Kraft et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Sex Research•2011•Cited by: 10•References: 3

Communication technology is a central feature of young people's lives, but its role in romantic and sexual relationships has not been thoroughly examined. This article describes how young adults use communication technology for partnering across relationship stages (formation, maintenance, and dissolution) and types (serious/casual), and proposes implications of usage in relationships. This study analyzed qualitative data from a five-week, prospe…

  • Family Planning Service Delivery Research

    Open Access•Linda Hock‐Long, Paul Whittaker et al.•ARTICLE•Perspectives on Sexual and…•2010•References: 5

This article focuses on contraceptive cycling or recurring episodes of method uptake discontinuation and switching over the course of a womans reproductive life span as an important implication for the prevention of unintended pregnancy. It describes the dynamics of contraceptive use the need for new family planning service models and implications for research and practice for the delivery of family planning care

  • Heterosexual Anal Sex Experiences Among Puerto Rican and Black Young Adults

    Open Access•Marion Carter, Dare Henry‐Moss et al.•ARTICLE•Perspectives on Sexual and…•2010•Cited by: 4•References: 2

Heterosexual anal sex is not an infrequent behavior and should be considered in a broad sexual health context, not simply as an indicator of STD risk. Health providers should address it openly and, when appropriate, as a positive sexual and emotional experience

  • Withdrawal Attitudes and Experiences

    Open Access•Paul Whittaker, Rebecca D Merkh et al.•ARTICLE•Perspectives on Sexual and…•2010•Cited by: 6•References: 2

Health care provider discussions with patients about withdrawal could give greater insight into risk behaviors. More informed prevention counseling messages would be helped by better effectiveness estimates and understanding of factors most likely to result in withdrawal failure

  • Man 2 Man

Open Access•Genevieve Sherrow, Tristan Ruby et al.•ARTICLE•Perspectives on Sexual and…•2003•References: 1

Despite a growing awareness of the importance of involving male adolescents in pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease (STD) prevention efforts information is lacking regarding the design and delivery of effective male-specific strategies. In this special report we describe the evolution of a promising program in Philadelphia Man2Man instituted through the collaborative efforts of the Family Planning Council; the Drexel University School of Pu…
