  • Preliminary estimates of recovery capital growth in early and middle stages: Social work practice implications

Open Access•Andrew Irish, E Bowen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Work Practice…•2025

As the recovery capital framework emerges, we still know little about growth rates in early- and middle-stage recovery. This study aimed to: 1) hypothesize recovery capital growth trajectories via graphical representations employing fitted lines and curves; and 2) generate preliminary recovery capital growth estimates through statistical models that predict monthly and yearly growth in recovery capital scores. • Tonal Ambiguity in Popular Music's Axis Progressions

    Open Access•Mark Richard, Mark Richards•ARTICLE•Music Theory Online•2017•Cited by: 9•References: 15

The harmonic progression of aFCG (Am-F-C-G) and its transpositions constitute one rotation of what I callAxis progressions, namely progressions that begin with one of these four chords and cycle through the others in order, hence the Axis-a, -F, -C, and -G, respectively. Of these four progressions, the a-form and C-form, and to a lesser extent, the F-form, have become staples of mainstream popular songs from the last decades of the twentieth cent…

  • Film Music Themes: Analysis and Corpus Study

    Open Access•Mark Richard, Mark Richards•ARTICLE•Music Theory Online•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 26

The phrase structure of film music themes remains virtually unexplored in scholarly literature. This article proposes an analytical system that expands and adapts Caplin 1998 in order to categorize the gamut of film music themes in some detail. This system is then applied to a cross-section of 482 themes from Oscar-nominated scores ranging from the early 1930s to the present day. In doing so, notable divisions appear around 1960 and 1990, times t…

  • Sonata Form and the Problem of Second-Theme Beginnings

    Open Access•Mark Richard, Mark Richards•ARTICLE•Music Analysis•2013•Cited by: 2•References: 21

Although the second theme (ST) group is a crucial landmark in Classical sonata form, where it is usually articulated with great clarity, in many instances its beginning cannot be so easily discerned, especially in Beethoven. The problem is that no matter how powerful a single rule may be, none by itself can identify all those locations which may be considered an ST beginning. This article therefore proposes that an ST beginning depends on the pre…
