Understanding the Impact of Intimate Partner Violence Mandatory Reporting Law
Intimate partner violence is a pervasive, complex problem affecting the lives and health of a large percentage of women and children. This report provides data from an evaluation designed to address questions and concerns expressed about possible unintended effects of the mandatory reporting law on victims. Case reviews were completed on 631 adult protective service cases resulting from reports of intimate partner violence. Results indicate that …

This paper outlines the development, implementation, and qualitative and quantitative evaluations of a foundation research course structured to give “equal time” and “equal voice” to both qualitative and quantitative research content. Effects of Gender Role Expectations on the Social Support Process
Based on a model of interactive coping activation, we review the impact of gender in the giving and receiving of emotion‐ and problem‐focused social support. The research suggests that the female role (emphasizing nurturance and emotional expressiveness) makes it easier for women to activate social support from close relations as well as to provide social support; whereas the male role (emphasizing achievement, autonomy, emotional control) makes …
