Effects of menthol cigarette and e-cigarette flavour restrictions on tobacco product purchasing
This study experimentally demonstrated that menthol cigarette bans reduce cigarette purchases. Additionally, flavour restrictions on cigarettes and e-cigarettes distinctly influence substitution patterns, with a menthol cigarette ban encouraging switching to e-cigarettes, while an e-cigarette flavour restriction increases NRT purchasing. As policymakers consider strategies to reduce tobacco-related harms, these findings highlight the need to care…
Impact of four tobacco tax policies on tobacco product purchasing patterns across socioeconomic groups
NCT06795997
Does e‐cigarette nicotine strength influence substitution for combustible cigarettes
Using the Experimental Tobacco Marketplace, we examined the effects of e‐liquid freebase nicotine strength (3–24 mg/mL) and e‐liquid price (US$0.25–$1.00/mL) on behavioral economic substitution for cigarettes in dual cigarette/e‐cigarette ( n = 41) and exclusive cigarette ( n = 40) users. Subjective effects of nicotine strength were also examined. All nicotine strengths served as a substitute for combustible cigarettes, with greater substitution …
The phenotype of recovery XI
Together, these findings suggest sleep and stress contribute uniquely to the process of addiction recovery. Considering both factors when designing interventions and planning for future research is recommended
Illegal Experimental Tobacco Marketplace II
Significance Restrictive e-cigarette policies may increase purchases from illegal sources. The Illegal Experimental Tobacco Marketplace (IETM) allows examination of how restrictions impact illegal purchases. We investigated (1) the effect of a vaping ban, total flavour vaping ban and partial flavour vaping ban on the probability of purchasing illegal vaping products among different regulatory environments (USA, Canada and England) and tobacco use…
Estimating the Impact of Tobacco Parity and Harm Reduction Tax Proposals Using the Experimental Tobacco Marketplace
Taxes are a demonstrably effective method to suppress tobacco use. This study examined the effects of the tobacco parity (i.e., imposing taxes equally on all tobacco products) and the harm reduction (i.e., applying taxes in proportion to the products' levels of harm) tax proposals on demand and substitution across products. A crowdsourced sample of cigarette smokers ( n = 35) completed purchasing trials with increasing tax magnitudes across diffe…
Tobacco Dependence Treatment in Oncology
Despite the importance of smoking cessation to cancer care treatment, historically, few cancer centers have provided treatment for tobacco dependence. To address this gap, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) launched the Cancer Center Cessation Initiative (C3i). As part of this effort, this study examined implementation outcomes in a cohort of cancer survivors (CSs) who smoked cigarettes in the first year of an ongoing process to develop and impl…
