  • Using Hypothetical Probability Discounting to Measure Socially Influenced Risk-Taking during a Viral Outbreak

    Open Access•Tegan E A Andrews, Nicola J Starkey et al.•ARTICLE•The Psychological Record•2025

During the COVID-19 pandemic, citizens were asked to avoid social contact to prevent the spread of the virus. In two separate online studies, we used three hypothetical scenarios within a probability discounting task to investigate whether participants would risk a monetary fine to break “lockdown” conditions when urged to by different types of social contacts (friends, parents, partners) and social contacts of varying proximity to the participan…

  • Training numerousness to numerosity in the dog ( Canis lupus familiaris )

    Open Access•Kristie E Cameron, Aryan Muzumdar et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of the Experimental…•2025•References: 34

Nine dogs were trained to select a …

    Open Access•Emily M Norman, Lara Wilson et al.•ARTICLE•Probation Journal•2022

This study aimed to explore, describe, and interpret New Zealand probation officers’ insights into supervisees’ non-compliance with community sentences. Seventeen probation officers participated in two focus groups. Probation officers viewed problems with cognitive skills as a key barrier to sentence compliance. They reported that these problems underpinned other factors linked to compliance, such as meeting basic needs and skill acquisition. Pro…

Open Access•Daniel Shepherd, Jason Landon et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2019

  • Examination of the Accuracy and Applicability of Information in Popular Books on Dog Training

    Clare M Browne, Nicola J Starkey et al.•ARTICLE•Society and Animals•2017•Cited by: 1•References: 1

There is a wealth of popular literature available on dog behavior and training; sourcing reliable and trustworthy advice is important to achieving successful training. The aim of this study was to select five best-selling (at that time) dog training books, and review their general content and references to basic learning theory and human communicative cues. An Internet search was performed on three online bookstores’ websites for “best selling” “…
