Lothar Peter, Loren Balhorn•BOOK•Marx on Campus•2019

Alongside the 'critical theory' of the Frankfurt School, West Germany was also home to another influential Marxist current known as the Marburg School. In this volume, Marburg disciple Lothar Peter traces the school's history and situates it in the political discourse and developments of its time. The renowned political scientist Wolfgang Abendroth plays a large role, but unlike most histories of the Marburg School Peter also takes the sociologis…

    Open Access•Lothar Peters, Lothar Peter et al.•ARTICLE•World Englishes•2007•Cited by: 3•References: 20

In recent years, a number of studies on the national varieties of West African Standard English have taken a comparative perspective, mostly dealing with phonetics (e.g. Simo Bobda, 1995, 2000a, b, 2003; Simo Bobda et al., 1999), but also with the lexicon (Wolf and Igboanusi, 2003). Similar efforts with respect to the national varieties of Pidgin English spoken in West Africa. i.e. Ghanaian Pidgin English, Nigerian Pidgin English, and Cameroon Pi…

    Lothar Peter, Hans‐georg Wolf et al.•ARTICLE•English World-Wide A Journal of…•2003

The article discusses the specific features of the English used in The Gambia by looking at the phonetic and lexical markers that distinguish Gambian English from the other national varieties of West African English. The study shows that Gambian English has a number of established and exclusive features owing to the formation of a national norm and the influence of certain indigenous languages, yielding a national quasi-standard easy to identify

Faced with the influx of asylum seekers without reliable identification, some European countries have started to resort to the analysis of spoken texts produced by the applicants to trace their true origins. This has triggered a hot debate among politicians, non-governmental organizations and academics. Ethical and scientific considerations are the two main poles of the debate. On the scientific front, the question is whether it is possible to de…

Diese Formen verweisen auf Bedürfnisse nach Gemeinschaftlichkeit, persönlicher Interakti…
