W artykule podjęto próbę weryfikacji i ponownego oszacowania strat demograficznych wywołanych okresem tzw. potopu tj. wojny polsko-szwedzkiej z lat 1655-1660. Sądzono dotychczas, że były one bardzo wysokie, niemal porównywalne ze stratami krajów niemieckich z czasów wojny trzydziestoletniej.
