  • Understanding the experience of users of communication aids and applications through focus group discussions with people with aphasia and family members

Open Access•Nancy Azevedo, Guylaine Le Dorze et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Communication•2023

The present study sought to identify the communication needs of persons with aphasia (PWA) and of their spouses, that could ultimately be addressed with current communication aids or applications (CA/A). Among users of CA/A we solicited their opinions and experiences with current CA/A. In contrast, among those not using CA/A, we explored why they did not use CA/A. A qualitative experiential research design was used through two in-person focus gro…

  • Stress properties of Greek compounds

Open Access•Athanasios Tsiamas, Gonia Jarema et al.•ARTICLE•The Canadian Journal of…•2015

Theoretical accounts of Greek compounds argue for a close relation between their stress properties and their underlying structure. Compounds that preserve and receive stress at the same position as their second constituent are analyzed as stem-word constructions, while those that receive antepenultimate stress are viewed as belonging to the stem-stem category. Using an auditory lexical decision task, we examine the effect of stress change on the …

  • Probability in the Grammar of German and Dutch

    Open Access•Andrea Krott, Gary Libben et al.•ARTICLE•Language and Speech•2004•Cited by: 2•References: 7

This study addresses the possibility that interfixes in multiconstituent nominal compounds in German and Dutch are functional as markers of immediate constituent structure. We report a lexical statistical survey of interfixation in the lexicons of German and Dutch which shows that all interfixes of German and one interfix of Dutch are significantly more likely to appear at the major constituent boundary than expected under chance conditions. A se…

  • Is “agrammatic speech”; agrammatical

    Open Access•Gonia Jarema•ARTICLE•Paper in Linguistics•1985

The availability of syntactic structures was studied in the spontaneous speech of 4 Broca's aphasics with agrammatism. Overall production in the 7 tasks used did not support the hypothesis of the unavailability of closed class items. Moreover, all subjects produced some grammatical sentences, which shows that performance varies for each patient. Finally, a cross‐subject analysis indicated that variability can also be found across patients, some e…
