  • Alternating arguments of Polish psych verbs

    Open Access•Anna Bondaruk, Bożena Rozwadowska•ARTICLE•Glossa a journal of general…•2024

This paper focuses on the Experiencer Object (EO)/Experiencer Subject (ES) alternation in Polish. This alternation is viewed here as distinct from the causative/anticausative alternation, because eventive EO verbs do not pattern like change of state (COS) verbs, and their reflexive ES alternants are unergative, not unaccusative. Eventive EO verbs share a common base with their ES counterparts, which corresponds to an unergative vP, with the exper…

Podane są dowody na to, że analizowane się nie ma i…

  • Argument and case linking of Polish Experiencers

    Open Access•Anna Bondaruk•ARTICLE•The Canadian Journal of…•2020

This article aims to test whether the Theta System of Reinhart (1996, 2000, 2001, 2002) can account for the puzzles associated with psychological verbs in Polish. The first puzzle, called argument linking, relates to the mapping of the Experiencer onto a subject or an object position. The second puzzle, referred to as case linking, concerns the fact that Experiencers may be marked for different cases in the same sentence position. The analysis of…

  • Against the Psych Causative Alternation in Polish

Open Access•Bożena Rozwadowska, Anna Bondaruk•ARTICLE•Studies in Polish Linguistics•2019

The paper examines Object Experiencer (henceforth, OE)/Subject Experiencer (henceforth, SE) verb alternations in Polish in order to check whether Polish exhibits the causative/ anticausative alternation in the psych domain (psych causative alternation of Alexiadou and Iordchioaia 2014, henceforth A&I 2014). The focus is on two types of SE reflexive alternants of OE verbs, i.e., (i) SE forms with an obligatory instrumental case-marked DP derived f…

  • Person case constraint effects in Polish copular constructions

    Open Access•Anna Bondaruk•ARTICLE•Acta Linguistica Hungarica•2012

The paper examines two patterns found in one type of copular constructions in Polish, i.e., those containing the verbal copula by 'be' and the pronominal copula to. In the first pattern the verb by 'be' agrees with the second, postverbal element, not with the first one, while in the other 1st and 2nd person pronouns are banned from appearing as the first elements in to by copular clauses. It is argued that these apparently unrelated patterns are …
