Iraq's Chemical Weapons Legacy: What Others Might Learn from Saddam
Iraq's experience with chemical weapons provides ample lessons for nation-states looking to redress their conventional military shortcomings. Nation-states are likely to learn from Saddam that chemical weapons are useful for waging war against nation-states ill-prepared to fight on a chemical battlefield as well as against internal insurgents and rebellious civilians. Most significantly, nation-states studying Iraq's experience are likely to conc…
Iran in Iraq’s Shadow: Dealing with Tehran’s Nuclear Weapons Bid
A s the old military adage has it, no good deed ever goes unpunished. And so it would seem with American security interests in the Persian Gulf. Soon after the United States has removed a major threat to American and regional interests with the defeat of Saddam Hussein's regime, Washington has to come to terms with the looming challenge of Iran's quest for nuclear weapons. The good news is that assertive multilateral diplomacy still has some runn…

The Nuclear Peace Fallacy: How Deterrence Can Fail
Some scholars counter-intuitively argue that the proliferation of nuclear weapons increases international security by substantially reducing the chances for inter-state armed conflict. This school of thought draws heavily on the history of the American-Soviet Cold War rivalry to inform its analysis. The security dilemmas in the contemporary Middle East and South Asia where numerous states have or want nuclear weapons, however, are profoundly diff…
War and the Iraq Dilemma: Facing Harsh Realities
The children of darkness are evil because they know no law beyond the self. They are wise, though evil, because they understand the power of self-interest.The children of light are virtuous because they have some conception of a higher law than their own will. They are usually foolish because they do not know the power of self-will.They underestimate the peril of anarchy in both the national and international community.""Clearly it has become neces…

American diplomatic realism: A tradition practised and preached by George F. Kennan
George F. Kennan's work remains pertinent to the contemporary debate over American foreign policy in which voices calling for a realistic conduct of American diplomacy have been faint. Wilsonianism has seiz…

Also, male and female subjects from three different strains of rats (19 Hooded, 4 Tryon Maze Bright, 4 Tryon Maze Dull) were tested. The two experiments demonstrated that the incidence of stereotyped behavior was a monotonic increasing function of dose. Variations in the form of the response…
