Seeking for the nature of and a path to religious nationalism, it is suggested that the later writings of İsmet Özel, a …

Ethnic and religious nationalism in Turkey: The cases of Atsız and Arvasi
This article compares the ideas of Hüseyin Nihal Atsız and Seyyid Ahmet Arvasi, two iconic ideologues of ethnic and religious nationalism in Turkey, respectively, on the issues of history, identity, and national ideal. It first argues that Atsız mainly presents a history of Turkish supremacism whereas Arvasi embraces a method of Islamization to remember history. It also demonstrates that Atsız tends to equate the racial and the national while Arv…
The International in Turkish Islamist Thought
This study examines Islamist understanding of change in the international system by inquiring into the conception of the international in Turkish Islamist tradition. It relies on a discourse analysis of Islamist journals’ entire corpus in Turkey from the 1940s to the 2010s. Its founding premise is that the Islamist prescription of change in the international system revolves around the notion of Pan-Islamism. This study first builds on an examinat…
International politics in Turkish Islamism during the Cold War, 1947–1964
This article will discuss the early discourse of Islamism on international politics in Cold War Turkey. It brings forth four main findings. First, while Islamists bandwagoned onto the discourse of the Turkish state and the Western bloc in presenting the Soviet Union as a national and global threat, they also sought to operationalize their anti-Sovietism for their broader political agenda. Second, Islamists effectively committed to the Western blo…

It basically searches for the salience and interaction of a wide range of identity aspects. It attempts to break down and analyse the components of the identity of Iraqi Turkmens based mainly on the findings of a…
