  • Combining Proxies and Narrative Sign Restrictions

Open Access•Yang Yang, Ren Zhang•ARTICLE•Journal of Applied Econometrics•2025

This paper proposes a novel integration of the proxy structural vector autoregression approach with narrative sign restrictions to identify multiple shocks with multiple instrumental variables. We show that this combination leads to informative inferences on shock effects through both analytical demonstrations and Monte Carlo simulations. Applying this method to identify anticipated and unanticipated technology shocks, we find that anticipated sh…

  • Visual appraisal of designed landscapes in high-rise residential areas rendered by residents living at different heights

Ren Zhang, Yuping Yuan et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Environmental Planning…•2023

As residential buildings become higher and higher, people begin to pay more attention to the views they can see through windows. Currently, the studies on landscape are mostly conducted at the height of human eye level, and little has been done on visual impact assessment of landscapes from other height perspectives. This study divided the high-rise residential buildings into different height partitions and set landscape style, green area, number…

  • Effects of Pandemic Outbreak on Economies

Open Access•Yunfeng SHANG, Haiwei Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2021

The coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the capitalist dysfunction showing that considering profit over people can be deadly. The study reveals the LME economies were more responsive toward the impact of the disease outbreaks as compared to the CME economies wherein the impact of the disease was moderated by the government involvement. This allows us to draw that the impact of the disease outbreaks can be moderated by increasing the involvement …

  • Stochastic Dynamics of the Covid-19 Case-Fatality Ratios in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines

Open Access•Zili Shi, Hua Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2021

This paper analyses the stochastic dynamics of the COVID-19 Case-Fatality Ratios (CFR) in three developing economies in East Asia: Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. The sample covers the daily frequency data from April 28, 2020, to June 29, 2021. For this purpose, we utilize two unit root tests, which consider one structural break and two structural breaks. The findings reveal that the CFR follows a unit root process in Indonesia and the …

  • Symbolic flexibility and argument structure variation

    Open Access•Ren Zhang•ARTICLE•Linguistics•2006•References: 9

Much work on the syntax-semantics interface has focused on verb frame alternations, the well-documented phenomenon that a verb is typically found in a variety of syntactic contexts. On the other hand, cognitive linguists have often focused on the flexibility of categories other than verbs in relation to such issues as metaphor, metonymy and polysemy. Drawing on the usage-based orientation of cognitive grammar, this article argues for a unified tr…
