  • Names of Hutong in Kaifeng

Open Access•Shuxia Yang, Bing Mei et al.•ARTICLE•Names•2024•Cited by: 3•References: 1

The common narrow lane in ancient cities of North China, the hutong, has long been of interest to scholars. However, the limited onomastic research on hutong names is mostly confined to Beijing, leaving the toponymic landscape of other well-known ancient cities underexplored. In view of this gap, this study, based on 67 hutong names and 201 non-hutong names of Kaifeng, explores the phonetic, morphological, and semantic features of these hodonyms.…

  • Understanding Chinese secondary school students’ perceptions of mobile-assisted language learning

Shuxia Yang, Rui Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Interactive Learning Environments•2022

Drawing on prior technology acceptance studies, we proposed a research model comprising nine latent constructs, and tested it with data collec…

  • The Emergence of the Binary Foot in Mandarin

Open Access•Jason Brown, Shuxia Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the Annual…•2016

While the binary foot is a common requirement across languages, formalized as a constraint, Ft-Bin is violable, and predicts patterns of latent binarity in some languages. This paper outlines the prosodic behaviour of synthetic compounds in Mandarin, which are demonstrated to yield output structures that must consist of binary feet, and where otherwise additional obligatory syllables will undergo tonal deletion in order to satisfy this requiremen…
