  • Storage Structures of the Late Early Bronze I in the Southern Levant and the Urbanisation Process

    Amir Golani, Eli Yannai•ARTICLE•Palestine Exploration Quarterly•2016•Cited by: 5•References: 5

Nearing the end of the Early Bronze (EB) I period (3350–2950 bce) the southern Levant underwent a transition from a village-oriented to an urban-centred society. An outstanding phenomenon of this period throughout the region is the proliferation of rounded circular structures, usually interpreted as storage facilities, often found in proximity to domestic buildings. These imply increased food production of individual households and a greater need…

  • The Inside Out of Childhood Archaeology

Itamar Taxel, Mark Iserlis et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Eastern Mediterranean…•2013•Cited by: 2•References: 7

Two identical ceramic rattles dated to the Early Islamic period (ninth–eleventh centuries CE), retrieved from excavations at Mishmar David (Israel), were studied using petrographic analysis and x-ray radiography. The petrography shows that the rattles were made of a typical Egyptian Nile Valley clay, while the x-ray radiography provides important data regarding their interior, including the sounding elements they contain. Given the rarity of cont…

  • A Group of Vessels from the Syrian Coast Found in the Coastal Plain of Israel

Eli Yannai, Amir Gorzalczany et al.•ARTICLE•Levant•2003

In excavations recently conducted along the coastal plain of Israel, a number of red polished and decorated pottery vessels were found. The vessels resemble Cypriot Base Ring I, Black Lustrous and Red Lustrous Wheel Made Wares. These Cypriot wares were imported into the south Levant in large quantities during the fifteenth and fourteenth centuries BCE. Most of the vessels discussed were petrographically analyzed. The results indicate that they we…

Eli Yannai, Eliot Braun•ARTICLE•Bulletin of the American Schools…•2001

Recent excavations in a cemetery at Ain Assawir at the western end of the ʿIron (Megiddo) Pass, Israel, have uncovered a number of cave tombs dating to the Early Bronze Age. Replete with grave goods of local origin, these sepulchers have also yielded a handful of imported artifacts within deposits that date to chronological ranges within the latter part of Early Bronze I. Included are a number of Egyptian ceramic imports as well as vessels of loc…

    Eli Yannai•ARTICLE•Tel Aviv•1999•References: 2

The research into grey burnished bowls has accompanied the archaeological research of the Early Bronze Age since the 1940's (Wright 1937) and has undergone several re-evaluations (Wright 1958, Gophna 1974, Goren 1991, Zuckerman 1996). There have been no excavations, to date, in which all phases of the EB I have been, found. The study of grey burnished bowls has been based on incomplete publications, disorganized, unstratified excavations, and sit…

    Eli Yannai•ARTICLE•Tel Aviv•1997
