  • Association of chronotype and sleep behaviors with mental well-being, eating behaviors, and adiposity traits

Open Access•Yee-How Say, Mimi Shamirah Nordin et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Although chronotype and sleep behaviors did not differ between sexes, those with a morning chronotype had lower overall, central and visceral adiposity, better well-being and self-control. Those with good sleep behaviors also had better well-being, eating and appetitive behaviors. In conclusion, this study supports the continuous advocacy for a morning-chronotype and good sleep behaviors for better physical and mental health

  • Cross-sectional association study of hedonic hunger, self-control, cognitive distortion, and well-being with adiposity measures among a sample of urban Malaysian adults

Open Access•Yee-How Say, Mimi Shamirah Nordin et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2024

Higher hedonic hunger and CD were associated with higher SBP and all adiposity measures. Overweight participants had higher hedonic hunger in the context of ready availability and physical presence of highly palatable foods. Lower self-control was weakly correlated with higher central adiposity; lower impulsivity and restraint were weakly correlated with higher visceral adiposity. These findings have provided some insights into the cognitive fact…

Open Access•Bee Koon Poh, Shoo Thien Lee et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

Children from disadvantaged backgrounds (that is those from very low income families and those whose parents had primary education or lower) and children with severe obesity are more likely to have poor non-verbal IQ. Further studies to investigate the social and environmental factors linked to cognitive performance will provide deeper insights into the measures that can be taken to improve the cognitive performance of Malaysian children

Open Access•Suraya Ibrahim, Norimah A Karim et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2013

To increase participation in physical activity, policy makers should consider significant personal, social and environmental barriers when developing appropriate intervention programmes. Health-promoting strategies that increase awareness, knowledge, skills and motivation related to physical activity are required

  • Developing a Malaysian Psychotic Symptom Screening Inventory

Alvin Lai Oon Ng, Lei Hum Wee et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Culture…•2013

Psychiatric screening and diagnostic assessments in Malaysia are generally translated versions of existing tools from the West due to the lack of research on indigenous mental health concepts for diagnostic and treatment purposes. This study examined the syndromes of psychotic disorder based on Western constructs within the local context to see its applicability in Malaysia. Knowledge of this investigation would help in determining the extent of …
