The Acquisition of English Caused State Change Events by Chinese–English—Japanese Trilinguals
Aims and objectives: This study investigates how Chinese–English (C-E) bilinguals and Chinese–English–Japanese (C-E-J) trilinguals express English caused state change events (CSC), focusing on the similarities and differences between the two groups. It explores the underlying motivations with an emphasis on cross-linguistic influence, particularly the inverse typological effect of the L3 (Japanese) on the L2 (English), as modulated by L3 proficie…
Reimagining Global Fashion
While fashion fusion has received considerable scholarly attention, visual fusion within non-Western fashion contexts remains underexplored. Drawing on multi-sited fieldwork and interviews conducted in Guangzhou, China, and Nairobi, Kenya, this study examines Chinese-Kenyan everyday clothing as a distinctive form of South-South interaction. The findings reveal that visual fusion in this fashion circuit is not a seamless blending of cultural forms…
Cognitive Intentions in Dialogue
This study investigates the role of expressive syntactic constructions (ESCs) in conveying cognitive intentions (opinion, argument, supposition) in literary texts. Using Guzel Yakhina's novel «Zuleikha Opens Her Eyes» as primary material, the research analyzes the functional capabilities of specific syntactic devices including parcellation, repetition, rhetorical questions and exclamations, aposiopesis, ellipsis, inversion, and other construction…
Post-Occupancy Evaluation of the Improved Old Residential Neighborhood Satisfaction Using Principal Component Analysis
Recently, many Chinese cities have initiated improvement projects aimed at enhancing living conditions in older residential neighborhoods. Urban improvement should be closely linked to the needs of occupants to determine “what to improve”. Governmental initiatives and the various stakeholders involved in the project influence the impact of improvement efforts. The objectives of the study are essential to identify the factors influencing occupants…
University students’ experiences with non-first language as the medium of instruction – a mixed method study
Students from Asian countries form the largest group of mobile international students in Western anglophone countries. Despite research on the mobility experiences of international students to anglophone and non-anglophone countries, there are limited cross-comparative, mixed-method studies exploring the experiences of host language acquisition and usage and how these impact on academic performance and shapes social connectedness. This study cont…

Association between systemic immune-inflammation index and low muscle mass in US adults
The increased SII levels were associated with an increased risk of low muscle mass in a large population. Our study increased the understanding between inflammation and low muscle mass. Anti-inflammation therapy may be important for low muscle mass
The “Descendant of Dragon” or an “American Dreamer”? The Flow of Identity in the Media Discourse of Eileen Gu Between China and the US
Identity in sports forms a key stage in which globalization is both constituted and resisted and where various contentions and nuanced dynamics remain to be unpacked. In this paper, we examined the media’s ability, from China and the US separately, to construct and deconstruct the national identity of a naturalized athlete, Eileen Gu (Gu Ailing), an American-born Chinese athlete, during the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games. By combining frame an…
A Smarter and Greener Olympics
In the post-COVID-19 era, the mediatization of sports mega-events is timely and notable. This study focuses on the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing and investigates how mediated processes influenced the Olympics. The data were gathered in two ways: we examined 783 WeChat posts from three salient Chinese media institutions, namely, the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Organising Committee (BOCOG), China Central Television (CCTV), and Beijing Telev…

A comparison of breastfeeding among Han, Uygur and other ethnic groups in Xinjiang, PR China
Uygur babies were least likely to be 'exclusive breastfed' and continued to 'any breastfeed' at six month. The 'any breastfeeding' rates in the Han group were lower in the first four months. An education program focused on breastfeeding continuation and exclusive breastfeeding is necessary in Xinjiang, especially for Uygur and Han ethnic groups
