Near, Far, Wherever You Are
As the International Criminal Court (ICC) nears its 20th year in operation, many international criminal law practitioners and scholars are asking: where is the ICC today in relation to its original promise to end impunity for the world’s worst crimes? Baked into that question are themes of the court’s distance and proximity, temporal and spatial, professional and existential. Where is the ICC located along the historic ‘arc of justice’ and how mi…
ReVisiting the ICC Registry’s ReVision Project
The reorganization of the Registry of the International Criminal Court (ICC) — known as ReVision — remains the most comprehensive reform exercise undertaken by the Court in its 20-year history. Despite lawyers being at the forefront of calls for such reforms, few have analysed the context, achievements and limitations of this exercise. This article remedies that lack by analysing the context in which ReVision arose, and the main features of the p…

From bureaucracy to management
Within international institutions such as the International Criminal Court (ICC), lawyers increasingly encounter managerial practices which are designed to improve organizational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Charting this trend, scholars have analyzed these practices with a view to make them more legitimate. However, this scholarly focus overlooks the role of managerial practices in legitimizing and thus sustaining the institutions in which…
Beer, wine, and social anxiety
The social anxiety literature often cites the self-medication hypothesis (SMH) to explain why socially phobic clients often present with alcohol problems. Based on some earlier hints that social anxiety and drinking might be related in a curvilinear way, we sought to examine the SMH to assess for possible non-linear relationships, and to examine whether cultural differences affect these relationships. We surveyed self-reported social anxiety, alc…
Factor Structure, Reliability, and Validity of the Death Attitude Profile-Revised
The Present Study Examined The Factor Structure, reliability, and validity of the Death Attitude Profile-Revised (DAP-R; Wong, Reker, & Gesser, 1994) using a sample of 403 hospital and hospice nurses. A principal-components factor analysis of the DAP-R indicated that the DAP-R may consist of six factors instead of the five originally reported by Wong et al. The first four factors reported by Wong et al., which correspond to the subscales that the…
