  • Secondary innovation in context

Open Access•Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh, Soumodip Sarkar et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2026

China’s emergence as a global innovation powerhouse presents a theoretical puzzle. Decades of unprecedented economic growth have been analyzed, yet the mechanisms behind the country’s technological transformation remain contested. Existing theoretical frameworks, developed within the context of advanced Western economies, struggle to adequately explain the trajectory of a latecomer nation that has rapidly transitioned from an alleged “imitator” t…

  • Exploring the mechanism of path-creating strategy for latecomers

Open Access•Yuanyang Teng, Yicun Li et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2024

In this paper, the traditional econometrics method and causal machine-learning method are combined to study the mechanism of a path-creating strategy of latecomers to influence latecomers’ catch-up performance. A total of 283 high-tech manufacturing enterprises listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges from 2007 to 2019 were selected for the study. OLS linear regression model verifies that path-creating has a positive impact on latecome…

  • A Deceptive Reviews Detection Method Based on Multidimensional Feature Construction and Ensemble Feature Selection

Open Access•Shudong Li, Guojin Zhong et al.•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Computational…•2023

Deceptive reviews on social media and e-commerce websites are inflammatory and will significantly affect the judgment and purchase behavior of other users. At present, many researchers build models based on single text features to detect deceptive reviews. However, deceptive reviewers will deliberately imitate the text style of true reviews when writing reviews. At this time, these methods based on text features are not necessarily effective. Wha…

  • Soil quality assessment of cropland in China and its relationships with climate and topography

Open Access•Ting Li, Lulu Li et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2023

Assessing soil quality (SQ) of cropland is fundamental for food security and sustainable land management. However, there is limited information regarding SQ assessment on a national scale, which is vital to answer important SQ‐related questions in quantitative terms on that scale. Here, the SQ of cropland in China was assessed by constructing a minimum data set (MDS) from 23 soil physicochemical properties based on principal component analysis. T…

  • Regional studies and frugal innovation

    Open Access•Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh, Rhiannon Pugh et al.•ARTICLE•Regional Studies•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 12

Innovation has been a key topic of interest for the regional studies community. In particular, the regional characteristics and impacts of innovation have been a popular theme of enquiry and theorisation, and the community has been at the forefront of discussions around regional innovation systems, in particular. However, we see a large gap in the current state of the art around frugal innovation. The focus of this paper is to place this topic at…

  • The effects of Polygonum cuspidatum extract on wound healing in rats

    Open Access•Xiaobo Wu, Xiao-bo Wu et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2012

  • The velocity field and flow regime of David Glacier and Drygalski Ice Tongue, Antarctica

Jan Wuite, Kenneth C Jezek et al.•ARTICLE•Polar Geography•2009

We analyze spatial and temporal variability of the surface velocity field of David Glacier and its floating seaward extension Drygalski Ice Tongue. We obtain velocity measurements by combinations of automated feature tracking, interferometry and speckle tracking using 1997 Antarctic Mapping Mission-1 and 2000 Modified Antarctic Mapping Mission RADARSAT-1 data. We compare short-term velocities, three-year averaged velocities, and earlier studies t…

  • Secondary innovation

Xiaobo Wu, Rufei Ma et al.•ARTICLE•China Economic Journal•2009•References: 5

Is endogenous innovation merely in the form of original innovation? In this paper, we attempt to illustrate a typical catch-up path with ‘Made in China’ named ‘secondary innovation’, which goes towards the virtuous circle of foreign technology acquisition and endogenous technological innovation, through an indepth longitudinal case study. Although secondary innovation is based on foreign imported technology, it is fundamentally different from sim…
