  • Conflict, information and regime-change

Open Access•Davide Bosco, Luca Colombo et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Political…•2025•References: 41

We study the choice between media freedom and censorship by an autocratic regime whose power can be challenged by citizens’ riots. To mitigate the risk of revolts, the regime can reduce citizens’ discontent, which is unknown to all, through public goods provision. To fine-tune such provision, the regime needs reliable information about discontent. However, public information has the unintended effect of helping citizens to coordinate towards riot…

  • A dynamic analysis of criminal networks

Open Access•Luca Colombo, Paola Labrecciosa et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Economic Theory•2024

We take a novel approach based on differential games to the study of criminal networks. We extend the static crime network game (Ballester et al., 2006, 2010) to a dynamic setting where criminal activities negatively impact the accumulation of total wealth in the economy. We derive a Markov Feedback Equilibrium and show that, unlike in the static crime network game, the vector of equilibrium crime rates is not necessarily proportional to the vect…

  • R&D location in dynamic industry environments

Open Access•Luca Colombo, Herbert Dawid et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Economic Geography•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 7

We study firms’ optimal R&D location strategies in a dynamic industry model with competition in product quality. In light of potential future inwards and outwards spillovers firms make their location choices relying on heuristic strategies that are based on the expected present values associated with alternative location patterns. Using a simulation analysis, we show how the strategies of innovators and imitators differ and how they depend on whe…

  • Multidisciplinary Management of Children with Occult Spinal Dysraphism

Open Access•Ignazio G Vetrano, Arianna Barbotti et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2022

Occult spinal dysraphism (OSD) comprises different forms of failure in embryogenic development that can lead to genitourinary, spinal, or lower limb alterations, thus determining progressive neurological deterioration. The correct management of children harboring OSD represents a significant issue during their life up to adulthood. However, patients often have to entertain individual consultations with each specialist. We settled on a multidiscip…

  • Video-Assisted Thoracoscopy for Vertebral Body Tethering of Juvenile and Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis

Open Access•Sara Costanzo, Andrea Pansini et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2022

VATS (video assisted thoracoscopic surgery) is routinely and successfully performed in minor and major complex thoracic procedures. This technique has been recently introduced for the treatment of severe forms of idiopathic scoliosis (IS) with the aim to repair the deformity, reduce morbidity and to prevent its progression in patients with skeletal immaturity. This study aims to present VATS in anterior vertebral body tethering (AVBT) approach to…
