  • Labour's Planning Reform

    Open Access•Dimitrios Panayotopoulos-Tsiros, Dimitrios Panayotopoulos‐Tsiros et al.•ARTICLE•The Political Quarterly•2025

This article examines the English planning reform agenda of the Labour government elected in 2024. It frames London's outer boroughs as a critical lens through which to assess it. Drawing on the findings of the cross‐party Suburban Taskforce (2020–2022), the article has particular regard to the proposed reconfiguration of planning committees, the introduction of a ‘grey belt’ designation and new models of environmental mitigation. Open Access•Loki Natarajan, Lucy Natarajan•ARTICLE•Planning Practice and Research•2019

This article examines how sub-national policy is applied in consenting decisions for major wind energy infrastructure. The study focuses on the Welsh tier of governance and the perspective of the public, building on existing work on ‘territorial politics’ and public participation. It looks explicitly at the regulatory stage of decision-making, which is critical to understanding multi-level governance contexts for energy infrastructure. Two cases …

Open Access•Maria Lee, Loki Natarajan et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Law and Society•2018•Cited by: 1

Law frequently demands the production, sometimes effortful, of adequate knowledge for decision making. This article explores the challenging epistemic demands made by nature conservation law during planning law approval processes for major offshore wind farms. It explores this area through the prism of co‐production: not only are ‘science’ and ‘facts’ socially and legally constructed, but in addition, scientific and factual findings shape society…

  • Design Governance

Matthew Carmona, Claudio De Magalhães et al.•BOOK•Design Governance•2016

Design Governance focuses on how we design the built environment where most of us live, work, and play and the role of government in that process. To do so, it draws on the experience of the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE), a decade-long, globally unique experiment in the governance of design. This book theorises design governance as an arm and aspiration of the state; tells the story of CABE, warts and all, and what …
